Popping after Shaker1000 replaced

This is a long going problem with some recent progress.... please read.

Dmhines really helped me out with the initial "POP!" I got when turning on my car. It was due to the new aftermarket headunit sending 12v to turn on the factor Shaker1000 amp. He told me how to install a +5v regulator from Radio Shack to eliminate the problem.

I installed the regular on the metal framework surrounding the radio behind the dash with a machine screw and lock washer. I found a good ground for the regulator and wired up the +5v remote wire from the headunit.

Now when I turn on the car, the initial pop is gone. However, I get random popping while music is playing. It's only on bassy notes when the volume is up more than halfway. I actually had to go in and turn off Loudness and turn the bass way down. Even so, it still does it if I have it too loud.

It never did this until after I installed the +5v regulator. Before installing the +5v regulator, I only got the pop when the headunit turned on.

I really want to get this fixed. It's driving me absolutely crazy. The headunit is a Premier 9800.

Unmount the regulator from where you have it, wrap it in tape, and see if that takes care of the problem. Just a thought.

...but the instructions say to make sure it's mounted with a screw to somewhere on the chassis.

I had the same problem when I used my stock amp and speakers. It didn't go away until I had aftermarket amps and speakers installed.

? Post the instructions where it says to mount the regulator to your chassis.

You are talking about a LM7805, right? It does not need to be mounted to the chassis of your car. For the application in question it doesn't need to be mounted at all to be honest about it. In a power supply or other electronic environment, yes, it needs to be mountd for heat purposes, usually to some type of heat sinc that is isolated from the ground circuit of the regulator. In your case, you are grounding it to the same circuit as the radio ground circuit. That is why I suggested unmounting it.

I agree with Hawgman, I used this same part and just wrapped it up with tape and left it dangling.

Ok, I tried it. Didn't make a difference... still popping when I turn the volume more than 1/2 up.

If I turn down the bass, shut off "loudness" and keep the volume below 50%, it doesn't happen.

This is killing me guys... from an electrical theory standpoint, what could cause this to happen? Any electrical engineers in here?
