new head unit

Hey guys,

I have searched and searched on this topic and I am still confused. I am wanting to order a new head unit(single din alpine or pioneer) so I can use my ipod in my 06 mustang(shaker 500). I am probably going to order from crutchfield. I need to know that if I get the PAC wiring harness they charge 129 (65 with deck) for, does that take care of the door sub popping problem without having to use the voltage regulators from radio shack? And will the door subs still work. In a thread on crutchfield it says that the PAC harness has the voltage regulators built into it. I just want to use the vast knowledge base here.

I am not upgrading anything but the head unit, but I still want full functioning speakers in the door.

Im in the same situation only with the shaker 1000. Not sure if the PAC is the way to go, or the cheaper Metra harness. Metra's usually can be found for about 15 bucks. Crutchfield says the PAC is needed for THXII systems, but I didnt think the shaker fell into that catagory.

dont waste your money on the PAC adapter. Ive gone through 3 or 4 single DINs and I currently have a DD Pioneer. I use an amp now (Infinity 6channel, highly recommended) but I only ever used the metra harness and volt regulator before that.

Does someone have a write-up on exactly how and where to attach the voltage regulator?

To the OP - found this in the description of the PAC harness on Crutchfield:

Other features of the C2R-FRD1 include data bus driven retained accessory power (RAP), vehicle speed sensor (VSS) output, illumination, reverse output, parking brake output and a 5-volt regulated amp turn-on for factory installed subwoofers.
