I installed the older Pioneer OEM Nav in my 07 and have the VSS and illumination issues and the unit doesn't see the Aux input (was a Shaker 500). I see others have this problem as well. Is there any hardware solution out there or is there someone in Canada that can program the radio (I have e-mailed Brad a few times but would like to avoid the $$ shipping charges)?
I took it to a Ford dealer but they just say no - can't be done. (don't mean to hijack the thread but similar issues)
Thanks

Your '07 may not have the proper VSS for that radio, that was changed some time during that year, I think. However, the illumination issues are indicative of needing radio programming, and that could fix other problems as well. Dealer's typically can not do this, it takes a specialty radio shop. Chicago Sound was one I used years ago, but you can also ask your dealer where they send radios for repair. For me it was a shop about an hour away that could do the programming, but they were more expensive even with shipping than going to Chicago for me. The same radio is used in a number of different vehicles and programming sets the radio to match the dash lighting, use of subwoofers (as in the Shaker 500) and other things.

I have read lots of threads on this and know that programming is probably necessary to cure the issues but I haven't read that the VSS issue has ever been addressed with '07's even with programming. I was hoping to find a place in Canada that might program the unit to avoid the high cost of cross border shipping. (Brad at 4D tech says programming will solve my issues and I hear he is pretty much of an expert on these although there are other places that program as well). The lack of VSS allows entering a Destination while moving so that is good.

Where in Canada are you? I'm in Seattle, so if you're in BC I could help you out. I bought a VCM programmer and did my 07 by myself.

I'm in Calgary. Where can you buy a VCM programmer? How much? Probably not worth buying one for a one time use though :-(
Hmmm. I'll keep a trip to Seattle in mind.

I'm in Edmonton and have the VCMII and IDS. If someone can walk me through it, then I could do it.

Hi Jim
If all is operational on your IDS/VCM start a new session and go to PMI and select ACM.
You can obtain the (727 codes) from Steering Wheel Audio mods #119. You must enter the exact 3 lines of 727 codes.
Briank
If you have a chance read Steering Wheel Audio Mods.

Hi Al
I have read the Steering Wheel Audio Mods post - WOW - probably that will be the next project after getting the unit I have to work properly - VSS, Illumination and Aux input.
Looks pretty complicated but hey - a guy needs a project right? Hopefully Jim and I can get together and program my unit. After that, the 'want' becomes a 'need'. LOL.

I like the Nav unit I got (it is from an MKX so is the chrom'ish one not the Ford Black but it matches the air vents in my car which are the brushed chrome). The GPS is marginal - at least not as nice as a Garmin - but it works and the touch screen is much nicer than the old pushbutton Shaker. I'd like to add BT, USB and a rear view camera etc, but those add-on parts (new) are pretty pricey.

Jim can program the basic acm 727 codes, that should take care of your radio functions.
If you decide to swap the steering so you can have operational buttons then the radio needs further updates.
I thought you might just wish be informed of further possibilities.

Hi Al
The NAV has terminals on the back for the steering wheel controls - (but after reading the posts it might not be correct). Can't they be programmed to recognize the steering wheel controls even if they're not there? Then if I decide to add later - then they will recognize the inputs. The pinout I have access to shows the Steering Wheel controls are on J1 Pins 16,17,18 & 19. I assume they use a Binary code to get more than 3 buttons. With power being 1 terminal (?), then using the other 3 spins as signals would allow up to 8 PB's. Do you know if this is the way it works?

If 16,17,18,and 19 are wired that is a start. When you install a 2010 steering wheel with the correct buttons, then you must wire the clock spring located behind the steering wheel.
After you get all the wiring completed, the radio must be programed to recognize the buttons. That requires somebody like 4d-tech to program your radio. Our ids/vcm units can only input asbuilt 727 codes for the acm.
That is why I suggested that you read the (steering wheel audio mods).

Hi Al
I didn't mean those wires are there on my car - only that the pinout for the NAV shows them there. I also didn't realize that the ids/vcm unit can only input as built codes and not just turn things on so the unit will recognize all it's potential inputs. I'm still learning - thanks for the info. I've been in touch with Brad at 4D but (for now anyway) would like to avoid the expensive cross border shipping costs - especially since I bought the unit from the US to begin with. I hate to 'add value' based on multiple shipping costs lol.

IDS VCM can only input asbuilt codes, what you want to do is find a VIN from a car that had all the stuff you want enabled, lookup that cars asbuilt data and use those 727 codes. If you have an 8 series radio the Tarus X works well. There is no way for us as end users to enable individual items. That would require 4D or another radio shop. You can program for steering wheel controls and add them anytime in the future. That's the way mine is currently. I have the 2010 steering wheel, just not wired yet.

Hi Randy
You said "Look up that cars asbuilt data and use those codes". Where does one find this information?

Also since Mustangs never came with steering wheel controls - how does one enter as built codes for these when they obviously don't exist. My wife has an MKX with the identical NAV unit but hers has all the toys. Would the IDS be able to read the codes from that, and then install them into mine. Other differences here would be that I would like to change from MSCAN data to hardwired for illumination, VSS and Aux in.
Can the IDS unit do that? I guess I'm at a disadvantage here for not knowing really what the IDS stuff can do or what it is really for. Sorry.

I had many problems like this when I got my Unit. I had to ship it to Brad to get it programed. I live in Ottawa... Why dont you just do what I did, ship it down there, then get it shipped back to a UPS store (or something like it) close to the border state side and pick it up. MUCH cheaper in the end. I didnt even claim it cause I installed it state side. Not going to pay taxes for something thats already mine.

Hi VGM
Good idea to avoid the cross border issue and the expensive shipping costs. I'll look into that too. My brother lives in Ottawa and regularly goes to NY and sends and receives stuff from there.

From Brad:

Our anticipated release date for the CANopener Harmony will be end of November, early December. We are just waiting on our production order and testing.

Hey Jim. What is the Canopener harmony thing that 4D is coming out with. I see that this is still going strong. Who would of thought that there would of been this much response.

I'm currently working on installing Saleen headrest inserts into GT leather headrests. I also have installed the 2013 puddle lamps in my '12 mirrors. I have a write up on this getting ready for posting, maybe later this week. I hope it helps with the installation of these mods.

I want to put those puddle lights into my 05 as well, but wanted to put them in to the 05 mirrors. Very interested in your write up.

If I can get the Edge/F150 nav in to my 05 with the Sync, I'll be content.

The canopener is a kit that allows vehicles like the 05 - 09 Mustang to use the OEM nav from the F150 or Edge in Fords that do not support it. It should solve all sorts of issues like the night lighting and other problems.
