I just picked one up from ebay this morning. Paid a few bucks more than the other sellers, but this one has a 99% positive feedback rating.

I've got quite the install planned in a couple weeks. Hopefully it'll all come together and work as I'm hoping.

Hags 1 now that you've had time to play with your kenwood DNX7100 what do you think? any dislikes? I'm just about ready to purchase one myself. By the way B & H shows a pic of the different body style too!!!

Chip, looks like the seller has 9 more available.

When you run up the model number, 4 or 5 sellers come up, but this person has the best feedback rating.

I hope it helps.....

You're welcome

Only difference between the one you have and the one I got is the end of the camera. Mine has a tapered end that unthreads from the camera lens. The taper was quite helpful in fitting it in to the lock hole.

Well....maybe there are two versions of the same camera then?? The cover on mine will unscrew, but it holds a glass piece over the lens and I think it has a seal also to make the camera waterproof....I used mine with the cover screwed on....I'll take a look at the Lorexstore and see if there are two versions.....

I like it so far.....lots of power.....sounds real good....easy to understand and navigate thru....I'm sure there are other units with more features, but for my needs this is more then enough.....I'm not sure what you're after in a nav. unit?? Each one has it's own pluses and minuses....Maybe list what you're after and I can let you know if the 7100 will fit the need.

Their might be. Or they might not even make the version I have anymore. No idea really. Like I stated way back when I got my camera at Fry's.

How do you like the navigation on the 7100? I just reciently purchased the KNA-G510 since their is apparently never going to be an friggin DVD update for the 4100. Spoke with someone ( a sales person ) that said the navigation in the 7100 was the G510 on steroids. Yet when I spoke with Garmin, they said it was the same software and they had only licensed one software to Kenwood. Just wondering if there really is any difference between the two. I do know that the GN52 ( the generic Garmin release of the G510 ) has different software on it than the G510.

Does the 7100 come with a SD slot for POI upgrades, firmware upgrades, etc?

Hey hawgman,

I'm just learning the navigation part of the system now....so far it seems dead on and very accurate...the 7100 does have a SD slot and I've read that POI can be upgraded via the slot...As far as the software itself, I couldn't tell you if it's upgraded or not....I've never had a Garmin before this or seen their G510 software....Is there something in particualr that you want me to check to see if it's different?

Hawgman

you used the tapered rear view camera, did you just stick it in the hole and let it seal against the foam washer with your fabricated bracket to hold it in place?

I got it, but I'm out of town at the moment, so I can't confirm the housing design. I'll be able to on the 13th.

I don't think it'll matter either way to me, I'm planning on mounting it the same way as Hags did.

Naw, nothing in perticular. It is probably the same software. Just quite different than the 4100 I had previously. I actually like the 4100 better. Not nearly as "cartoonish" as the 510.
