Does anyone with an 05 have a flip up LCD screen head unit? I am wondering how much it sticks up in to the way of the vents. Anyone have pictures?
I know there are in dash screens...but those headunits don't do enough for what i want (MORE than 2v pre-out, etc.).
I am considering the Alpine IVA-D310. just trying to plan how it will fit...

I have a clarion dvd/audio in dash flip up unit..I love it but the 2 center vents must be closed when it opens up and the tilt on the screen needs to be adjusted a bit to make sure it doesn't hit the chrome bezel on my vents.. I will post a pic of it this evening for you if you like?

here is a few shots of the unit..My deck has a built in "tilt memory" and once set will only open to the setting I have stored in it so when it opens it will stop just before hitting the vent bezels. The 2 center vent fins need to be closed though when the screen is in the up position.

So how do you guys like your flip ups and have you had them in previous cars? Was it worth the cost? Do you really use the dvd features enough to make it worth the cost? Would something a little smaller like this http://forums.bradbarnett.net/index.php?showtopic=26966 have been better

I love the flip up unit and do use the DVD controls form time to time.Mostly on long journeys for the wife and when attending car shows to show off the audio setup. The eclipse unit is very nice as well!..The flip out units can be had though for a bit less $$ nowadays than the eclipse type units...Either way they are nice!

Ok, I have to ask a stupid question here, but why not leave the dead space above the unit? Looks like in both of those pics that would fix the vent issues. (Ok, vc4life has a volume **** that would be a problem). I haven't actually looked at the installation kits/wiring harnesses, but it would definitely be something to ask about if you're going to have such unit professionally installed.

I have the Pioneer 5700, and the screen does not get in the way of anything because its completely adjustable as far as angle. I love it!

for music, am i missing something here? why not just burn a couple thousand MP3s to DVD and play it in the DVD player instead of having to hook up an iPod to hear your songs in your car? just wondering.

Advantages: All your songs in one place, no burning DVD's, Playlists, NEVER SAYING, "DARN I WISH I HAD THAT SONG RIGHT NOW"

I mounted my 7 inch screen a little different to where the Head unit was the bottom slot so when the screen flips up it doesn't block the vents. I think it looks alot better. See link to car computer setup. My screen was touch screen, but you should be able to flip the mounting kit so you can do it with any 1 din head unit.
