Anyone know anything about these speakers?
JL W6 dual 12 inch sub speakers.
They guy I bought my fiberglass box from , said these would sound great in the box, but I know NOTHING about audio.........
Each I think is 700Watts, that is all I know, I have never had JL before. I only had SONY and KENWOOD.
Also, if these are good enough, then what size Watt, brand name amp shoudl I go with?

Strictly my opinion...JL Audio makes some of the best woofers on the market.
I had a pair of the Pro Comp 10" in my last car and they hit so hard you thought someone was smacking the back of the seat with a hammer.

OK, the guy told me this speaker sounds good, so I might stay with that.
I might even go to dual 10's, to make sure the box will fit in the trunk. I hate to get the dual 12's , and have the box not fit in the trunk.

The box manufacturer would be the best source for this information. They will know what their box is tuned to handle.

Well, I don't know if I want to take you on a my "project child" but I am sure that myself and everyone else here will do what we can to offer the best guidance for the solution you are seeking.
The JL Audio 12W6 subs will work in the box pretty good. It is on the large end of what these speakers need for a sealed inclosure (if my memory is working), you will also loose a bit of space due to the driver itself (but not as much as a lot of people think).
The ONLY reason I would even be concerned with this is if you intend to drive them at their rated power handling. Then, you might get enough excursion to enter into the over excursion realm due to too much air space behind the sub. Of course, at that point, with the factory front speakers, ALL you will be hearing is those moster subs slamming the air around in the car.
So the short answer is don't worry about it. The JL Audio 12W6s will be GREAT speakers. Just get a great amp to drive them. Nothing will make a good speaker sound bad faster than an underrated amp that is distorting and clipping.

JL Audio subs rock! I've got three 12W3v2's and they hit hard. (not in the Stang)

For amplifier power, I'd go JL Audio "Slash" series. They're not cheap, but they're not the most expensive either. If you're on a budget HiFonics seem to be a pretty good value.

Are they 12w6s or 12w6v2s? The w6s are a little old by a couple years on their technology, and dont hit or sound nearly as good as the v2s. I had a single 12w6v2 in my Honda Hatch and it reaaaaallly pounded. It was louded than most dual 15 setups Ive heard. The v2s are rated at 400 rms power handling, and the w6s at 300 rms. I would consider a good JL 1000/1 amp to power those.. you'll have pleanty of head room. For my single w6v2 I was sending 500 watts to it in a sealed high output wedge, never had any distortion or problems after months and months and months of play. Id say the 1000/1 would be about perfect.
I really hope that box is built really well, because you're going to be knocking it pretty hard if you ever turn these subs up to their max.

Pony Girl, I have *1* JL audio 10w6v2 in a custom sealed fiberglass box mounted in the side of my trunk and it hits extremely hard, almost too hard
Granted I am driving it with a 500/1 from JL audio too, but I just wanted to agree with what was said on this thread so far, you can't go wrong with JL audio, but you do want the v2's (newer version)
I can literally see my rear deck flex from the pressure created from my 10 inch, I can only imagine what 2 12's will do to your car hehe
