Hey guys im new around here. Just a questing I just purchased a 2005 mustang v6 and I wanted the shaker 500. My dealer is telling me I cant get one as they are now ordering for 2006 which means I wouldnt get my car till sept. I'm left with the base stero and still want the shaker. Going through the service department they told me just to switch head units is over $1000 bcs they need to change the wiring in the trunk. Since Im only interested in switching head units does that make any sence, what wiring would you have to touch in the trunk there is no subs there.

Stick with the base unit and build a system over time. I'm learning the hard way trying to intergrate a high end head unit into my Shaker 500.

The Shaker 500 is a great upgrade IMHO. See the thread below for all the do-it-yourself details. I see Shakers on eBay periodically for reasonable $$$.

Good luck!

I am still using all the door subs/trunk subs but i am certainly willing to part with the 1000 if interested...that will atleast get you on the right path

its a real easy swap out to do, and worth it i did it to my first 05 and will do it to my second.
the reason i like it is because of the fit and finish of it, sure i could more than likely get a better unit for cheaper, but then having to get a "kit and harness" to make it fit etc just isnt for me.
also change out the speakers, that makes a huge difference!!

I would spend a grand on a decent headunit, component speakers, and a 10" sub in the trunk; instead of getting the shaker 500. Why spend a grand on paper speakers and a limited head unit?

Forget that...take that $1000 and go with something aftermarket. I have had my Shaker 500 replaced twice already and it still spits out disks saying "bad disk" for no reason. I called the dealer and told them I give up and don't want them taking it appart again. I am going aftermarket. For $1000 you can get some great stuff. Check out www.crutchfield.com

but I believe he just wants to change head units--so he can pick one up off of e-bay for around $200, and do the swap out himself, it uses the same wires that the stock headunit uses, no need to spend a grand at the dealer ect....

Not worth putting in the 500. IMHO If I am going to spend over a 1000 dollars, its going to be putting in a quality aftermarket system, not factory. Youll never get as good a system going factory. Thats why I went with base system. Build it with quality speakers, not thin crappy ones. Build it with quality amps, not factory, and put some really good subs and tweeters in there, and youll be flying high. Way higher than the shaker 1000, or the 500. Spend your money on a real system. JMO but factory is just that. They are not audio specialists and do not put the quality speakers etc. in the car. So why go to factory? Good luck whatever you do.
