05-07 Mustangs - Tired of Getting Your Window Tint Scratched?

I know this isn't a performance thread, but most of us want our vehicles to perform well and look nice. If you have an 05-07 Mustang your window tint will get scratched. In 05 & 06 the interior weatherstrip on both the driver's and passenger's side doors had nothing to prevent scratching the tint. In 07 Ford made a half hearted attempt to resolve this problem, but eventually the 07s will get damaged as well. In 08 Ford appears to have resolved this problem. The interior weatherstripping has a compete length of felt along the edge that contacts the window. About time!!

I purchased a 08 LH (8R3Z-6321457-A) & RH (8R3Z-6321456-A) weatherstrip from Ford today to install in my wife's 06 GT. I also ordered a set for my 05 GT. The cost was $25.52 ea. Total installation time was about 20 minutes for both sides. The door panel must be raised but not completely removed as the weatherstrip slides out from the rear of the door. This same weatherstrip fits 05-07. However, the original POS weatherstrip part numbers for the 05-07s are still available and do not get superseded by the 08 part number.

If you look carefully at the attached pictures, the LH and lower weatherstrip is the 08 weatherstrip.

Good find my friend, good find!! I've been wanting to tint mine for a long time, but never did because of scratching issues. No more excuses for me!

Thanks KC. If you get a chance, would you mind shooting me a price for this? I probably won't get around to actually tinting until after Christmas, but I'd like to be prepared ahead of time!! Thanks!

Chuck, follow TacoBill's thread. I just did mine after being lazy about it for 8 months, took 45 minutes.

I install tint. Easy to install the felt liner. Havent had a single problem since I bought my car and installed the tint myself.

UPDATE.

Realize this is an old topic so information has changed.

I just got a set of the 8R3Z6321456A & 8R3Z6321457A Weatherstrips For a customer & Ford at some point revised them again. I had originally posted on these way back and they were easy to see the difference in person. The older style was felt covered and the newer style was moonskin. It was a very different texture.

Both my Early Production 07 GT/CS had it and so does my Late production 07 Gt-500. Anyhow somewhere late in 2008 Ford switched back to a felt style Weatherstrip at least as far as service parts are concerned.

When I inspected these new Weatherstrips I really could not see the reason for the design change but upon closer inspection they changed two things which will likely serve the same purpose as the moonskin design. First the Angle in which the W/S is moulded is such where less pressure is exerted towards the glass. Second on the very top outer edge instead of a hook moulded edge it is a rounded moulded edge.

Hopefully these revised units will perform as well as the moonskins did. Why did Ford change. Usually they are two reasons. One a supplier change. Two they may have had durability issues with the moonskin design.

Anyhoo since I went through all of this I thought I might as well update the topic! Thanks a heap for those old pics! Otherwise I would still be scratching my head on this one!

Pic 2 Same Order Notice how New Style is Angled in for Less pressure.

Pic 3 Sorry its blurry. Notice at top End the Rounded edge.
