The 2005-2009 Mustang Coupe is a fastback style. I do not think that it would look good in vinyl. A real convertible would look OK.

Believe it or not, my 73 Mach 1 (sportroof) actually had a 3/4 vinyl top. Yes, I took it off years ago. Yes, it is "worth" more if I had left it on to concours guys.

Yes I am happy I don't have it.

No, I wouldn't recommend it for a 05-09.

But if you want it, go for it - it's your car, and ultimately you have to be happy with it, not anyone else. Most good upholstery shops should be able to help you out, just ask around locally to see who the restoration guys go to.

I think a vinyl roof would look nice, i have been toying with the idea. I have been trying to drill the idea into my friends head with his Challenger SRT8 since most of those cars came with it. I have always liked the 70's sport roof and the earlier vinyl tops. Plus i think the S197 is more of a coupe than a fast back seeing as the Iacocca mustang is a true fastback.

Some California dealers added vinyl roofs to fastback models from at last '67 through '70. The results were less than pretty imho. Some examples can be seen attached to this article over at MM: http://www.mustangmonthly.com/featur...ang/index.html

Personally, if you want something a bit uncommon, I'd consider a two-tone paint job with the top surfaces (hood, fender tops, roof, trunk) painted a different color. That does seem to work well on the S197, where as the vinyl roof idea is likely to produce something that's more just a curiosity.

You can do what you want.
I just don't want anyone to think these are questions where some poor soul is struggling for answers.
If you don't have other things to do (like me)...
Enjoy and post on.
