Trailer Hitch -- Yeah, Really....
Trailer Hitch -- Yeah, Really....
Hey, has anyone actually put a Class I hitch on a new 'stang? I've got a small trailer and bike rack & need a hitch. The Hidden Hitch / Draw-Tite model doesn't fit. It needs to be lower and the side brackets interfere with the mufflers. Any help would be greatly appreciated !!
U-Haul maybe.
Why didn't the hidden work. Which model was it.

Thanks much for the reply. At least someone has done it !!
I tried the Hidden Hitch 60809 (AKA Draw-Tite 24747) which is supposed to fit 2005-2008 GTs. The issue is the 1 1/4" x 1 1/4" receiver box (I'm not up on "hitch terminology") didn't come down far enough to clear the valence. I dropped it by 1 1/4" and it cleared fine. I fit it on the car putting the bolts in from the outside. The mufflers then cannot be installed because the verticle brackets that bolt to the frame and secure the cross bar prevent this. There is roughly 2" of interference (i.e. the muffler is 2" too long for clearance). What a pain !! I looked at other year GTs and the V6 cars and it appears they would all have the same issue with this hitch. Whew............

I just put the Hidden-Hitch #60809 on my 2008 GT last night. It took me about 4 hours by myself (the instructions are, um, less than thorough) to get it installed. If I had to do another one, I could get it done in about an hour.
I had the Hidden Hitch unit on my '05. I don't think it will fit the rear bumper on the Gt/CS, unless you cut a hole for the receiver. As for not fitting with the mufflers, it fit fine with my stock mufflers, but not with the Flowmasters. When I put them on, I took the hitch off (and lost the bolts to the inside of the frame rail). I still have the hitch in my garage, but have no plans on ever using it on the '07.
It worked for me towing a 6x10 trailer with a couple motorcycles and other junk on my move from Seattle to Las Vegas in '05.

Dont know much about what you guys are talking about but a while back Justin Burchman or w/e for JPC racing did this race week thing where you have to drive to 5 different tracks in 7 days to race. The write up was in the 5.0 Mag like a year or 2 ago but anyways he had a trailer hitch which he pulled a small u-haul trailer around with that had all of his **** in. When he raced he took it off and after the race he put it back on. It was pretty sweet.
The Final Story......
OK, so the modified Hidden Hitch 60809 is now on the car. It does fit with the stock mufflers but the trick is getting them back on. Simple enough -- you have to loosen the intermediate pipes so that there is enough slop to slip them back on. I did not need to notch the rear valence but I noticed that there was 1/4" that was not visible because it tucked under the car. I did make a 1/4" notch there. The valence doesn't stick out to where it's noticible (yeah, I'm that ****...). Thanks for all the posts.

My hitch is a Hidden Hitch on my 05 GT ragtop. It took the better part of a day by a pro and a lot of micro-fitting and filing to get it to do the job without rattling, but it does just fine now. It's actually a Class II hitch with a 200 lb tongue weight max, though the car is rated for only 1,000 lbs -- don't know why.
sorry for the inquiry but i came across this while looking for hitch covers. i dislike the whole tow truck look all the time. found a few good ones online. has anybody gotten one like that?

I have a Hidden Hitch. It was a pain to install but I had to cut off my Flowmaster mufflers which added to the job. They were rusted to the midpipes plus one of the Flowmasters had a big hole in it at the inlet tube (multiple Canadian winters) so they had to be replaced regardless. The car would not have passed the next emissions test. Luckily, I had a pair of 2007 GT500 take-off mufflers just sitting around (came as a package deal with my wheels.) The hitch will not fit with the Flowmasters but with the stock exhaust it fit well and is noticeable but subtle. It does not touch the bumper cover, the receiver comes out just underneath and is the only part of the hitch that is visible. Baby Jesus and Panda's should not look at the following photos:

I know I am going to hell for this but the Mustang tows the Palomino Colt very well. I can't afford two vehicles and I refuse to drive a truck 340 days a year when I don't need it.
