I didn't see the pic the first time I read this. Ok, with the help of a chinese native who works in the office, here's what it really says. 'cai shou xi ji'. Litterally, each character mean:
cai - wealth or money
shou - longevity, age
xi - happiness
ji - lucky, auspicious

I asked if this was a set phrase, commonly used. Chinese has a lot of these 4 character phrases that mean something. She said no, it's just like a list of things people want in life, or good wishes you would wish someone. Nothing to do with racing.

I know sometimes chinese characters are used with japanese phrases, especially in tattoos (I've looked up a few) with a little different meaning from the original chinese, but they are usually very close. This isn't.

I wonder if any Honda etc. owners ever put English phrases or words on their cars? Is there a "reverse rice" phenomena that we don't know about?

It has chinese letterings on it that the owner believes says "we raced" or something close to that.

Actually what it says to me is "we riced" You know, if the owner is chinese and KNOWS it says 'cai shou xi ji' then I would say it's poetic and cheers to him for putting it on there. But for someone who can't speak Mandarin (?) to put it on their car without even knowing what it says, that's just plain wierd.

If an asian person owns the car, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. I don't know how strongly asians are attracted to asian-manufacturer cars, but a chinese guy with a Mustang gets some appreciation points from me even if he puts chinese characters on the hood.

The chief engineer of the S197, Hui Thai-Tang, wouldn't give this eyesore the benefit of the doubt. This is just ugly.

Now if I saw a kid ricer with stickers on his fart-can Integra that said Boss, Mach 1, 351, 429, 5.0, etc., I'd give him credit for at least having high aspirations.
