How did some of you guys place the inserts in and around the taillight "seperators". I know it can be done with thicker pinstripes that you buy at an Autozone, but I tried it and around the curves is what is giving me the problems. I know the basic concepts of how to apply, but it keeps bundling together (only around the curves). I was applying chrome (to go retro like the old school stangs) around the inlays between the taillights and around the outer edges (which is giving me the problems ). Thanks for any help!!
Matt
P.S. - which products did you guys use?

I was going to do the same thing when the weather warms up but if it is that difficult around the curve's, maybe I won't even try it. I know someone on here tried it with crome and had difficulty but had no problem with silver metalic. The guy had experience pin striping too.

I think we have a few people on the site that are good with vinyl. Maybe if we get a pattern made we can have them in black, silver, pink, etc. ..ok, maybe not pink.
Just a thought. If not I will see if I can get someone good with vinyl to make me some and try it out. Or I may just do the painted on version.

That would be great if someone could make 'em in chrome vinyl. I bet a lot of people would want them.

Correct me if I am wrong but I believe it was not chrome that was used. It was bright metallic silver. Chrome is not meant to do curves like that. If you heat it up enough with a heat gun it will become pretty pliable, but after a few weeks it will either peel off because it is trying to go back to its original shape or crack.
Edit: The only way chrome vinyl will work properly is if a template is cut out of a solid piece of vinyl and then applied to the car.

Take a digital photo of the tail light lens (just one side). Import it into Corel Draw. Create your own template with the line tool. Just use the hairline thickness. Once you have your template done, print out a section on a piece of paper and cut it out. See if it lines up on the car. Just remember when designing it you need to have the proper measurements. Once it looks good duplicate your pattern and mirror one of them. You now have the drivers side and passenger side done. Save it to a cd and bring it to a sign shop so they can cut it out on vinyl for you.

I have a friend who does vinyl decals for 18 wheeler companies, and I will see if she can use my car to measure, and then make these. I know she will, but I have to know people will buy them.
Chrome? ( shiney silver)...
I will check into it this weekend
