Street Scene Ducktail

Very nice. I've been curious about the area where the lower corners of the Ducktail meet the original rear surface (areas circled in red). How flush is it with the car?

I ordered the CDC spoiler and optional 3rd brakelight and I'm not sorry BUT I appauld Mike for stepping up to the plate answering just about every question asked and photos requested. If I'm in the market for anything else for my car I will certainly be looking at your products because of your customer service. WELL DONE MIKE! :worship:

Could you post some nice clear pics of your CDC spoiler at some of the same angles and closeness as Ian's car...I really need to make a decision
How much does it cost to put on a ducktail? I know it's $250 for the tail, but how much would it cost to paint and install? Is it easy to install by yourself? I've never worked with 3m tape, and I've heard that there can be issues with making sure water doesn't seep in. Can someone who's done an install talk about those things? Thanks!
Jason... don't mind a bit.
Chuck... to paint the ducktail, it'll probably cost you close to $200. But you can definitely install it yourself. The 3M tape (if installed right: clean the surface really good, use adhesion promoter on the ducktail before applying the tape, install it in dry weather that's not too cold and not in direct sun) will hold up to anything. Once the tape is on there and it dries for a little while, no water is gonna get in there, trust me. But seriously it is very easy to install. Just take your time and make sure to read the instructions carefully.

Ian,
Wow, $200 to paint? Hmm, that gives me pause. I'll probably do it anyway just to be different, but what may I ask is adhesion promoter? Is that something you can buy anywhere? Or do I have to go somewhere special for it? Thanks!
The SSE ducktail actually came with adhesive promoter which worked great. I needed some a while back though and couldn't find it at auto parts stores, so I got my body/paint shop guy to give me a little for free.
I love my SS duck tail...I paid $280 to have it painted and installed. It looks great I need to post some pics but i never posted pics before. I just havnt had the time to figure it out. But i got to tell you it looks good. My wife took it out the other day and got stopped at the gas station by a couple of high school kids to tell her how hot she and it were

I think he meant the price of the spoiler PLUS $280 to paint and install it. Which isn't too bad. Can't wait to see some pics...

Oh, duh. Now don't I feel silly.
Ok I read through all 5 pages of this so I could ask a question Mike, by the way Ill be buying your spoiler for sure, when I get the money that is!! My question is about your SS rear bumper valance, I like the look of it and from the pics I have seen it looks like it comes out a little wider right behind the rear tires than the stock setup. So Im thinking this valance will help catch some of the tire mud sling, instead mudflaps and help keep the area behind the rear tire a little clleaner. What do you think, am I just imagining this or am I right?
The reason Im looking at this is because I live down a dirt road which I have to take care of. When we get a lot of rain it gets some muddy spots which of course sling up off the tires no matter how slow I go. So I'm thinking this could be a solution to my mud problem.

You are correct Runfox. It is wider- it comes out and picks up where the flares leave off. It does help but doesnt take care of all of the problem. I still get some dirt and mud on the back but it does catch a lot of it. It also makes the back of the car look a little wider.
Mike - now that now that you have had the ducktail on the car for a while, has the tape been working? Did you need to use the screws/bolts?
Acadian said that he felt the tape was good.
Just wondering how it was working for you since you live in similar conditions to me and have had yours on the longest.

Tape has worked great- I haven't used the screws yet. Probably the only extra precaution that I use is, I don't grab it by the wing when I open or close the trunk. Its just a little phobia I have. Over time it could cause a problem. I don't know about you but I also don't grab the glass on the door when I close it. I close it by grabbing the door handle or the door itself. If you constantly close the doors by pushing on the glass, it will become loose over time cause there is no window channel around the top and backside. When others ride with me I always see them grabbing the glass when they go to close the door and it drives me nuts.
Hey Mike, is there any chance you could make a plug for the third brake light hole...this is the only thing stopping me from purchasing your spoiler right now. I saw the CDC cars at Carlisle last weekend, I dont like how subtle the ducktail is. I looks good from the back, but not from the front, not high enough and angled to much back. I still like the clean retro look with NO hole for the brakelight...How bout it Mike, pllleeeeease!!!
Let me call my liability insurance guy and my lawyer first and see what they think of me developing a product to take out a 3rd brake light.... I can’t do it for liability reasons but I can tell you that body shops carry urethane filler for doing body work. Our products are made from urethane, Urethane has the same qualities of the front nose that comes stock on your Stang. Sometimes body shops need to fill cracks and chips. Sort of like bondo but for urethane. You might be able to get a body shop to do something?
I didn't even think about that. If you order the SSE ducktail and need to have a shop paint it anyway, it's not going to cost you too much more to have them fill in the third brake light hole before they paint it. And once the spoiler is fastened on there (taped from all 4 sides) it shouldn't ever flex enough to crack the filler. Just make sure you unplug your third brake light though, or else when you drive around at night and hit the brake, people behind you will be able to see some red light coming from your ducktail.
