K, guys, i just got off the phone w/ suvlights.com. real nice ppl there. anyway, the long and short of it is that they haven't looked into HID for the '05 mustangs. the only thing they could recommend was cutting the reflector part of the housing out and replacing it with a projector beam housing which is 7" in diameter. our stock headlight housings are 6.5" dia. he said what would be at issue is the forward clearance of the projector and the clear shield on our existing housing. he said it might have to come off.

after looking at it and sizing things up, i would say the odds of that having to happen are good because of the close proximity of the outer edges with the clear shield of our enclosures.

he did not mention any type of bulb substitute. i think that would be unfeasible anyway for any of us short of die hards who want HID no matter what it takes and have Houdini modding skills.

i think gothid.com is part related to suvlights.com in some way. the suvlights guy told me to check out the gothid.com site to see the 7" projector HID he was referring to. in kit form they run over $1,100 anyways. so for all intents and purposes, i think it's saleen or bust for us.

currently i have my fog light housings pulled. the added air flow area to the radiator is a lot. personally, i think i'll just try silverstar 9005s in my fogs and see how that works out. i don't care for the fog light look, but to get good lighting right now, and keep an arm and a leg, i'll throw them back in.

i got this link from an AFM forum thread.

http://www.allfordmustangs.com/forums/show...0&highlight=HID

http://www.xesighting.com/about_us.asp

check out who they are:
Who We Are

XSIGHTING LIGHTINGâ„¢ is the Aftermarket Division of Valeo Sylvania, a 50/50 Joint Venture between Osram Sylvania and Valeo. Valeo Sylvania is a leading global OEM exterior lighting supplier with over twenty-six years experience in bringing innovative lighting technologies to market.

XSIGHTING LIGHTING products utilize new technologies (Xenon/HID, LED, elliptical projectors, high performance reflectors) developed by Valeo Sylvania and its Business Alliance partners. XSIGHTING LIGHTING products are designed to improve lighting performance and add unique styling to enhance the appearance of the vehicles on which they are installed. All XSIGHTING LIGHTING products are designed to meet or exceed DOT requirements and pass the same rigorous testing utilized for all Valeo Sylvania exterior lighting products.

We hope that you will try our XSIGHTING LIGHTING products soon.

sounds to me like xsighting lighting is a sylvania skunkworks company. in the above forum thread link i listed, Peet says xsighting makes the Saleen HIDs.

i too emailed them to find out if they in deed make the saleen units and what they'd sell them to the public for. hopefully Steve Saleen does not have an exclusive on the '05 mustang HID kit. to be sure, the Saleen HID kit is the most sano and simplest install. OEM clean.

The saleen kit also includes both a low and high beam and uses a moveable shield to seperate high and low - very curious on how that works. I emailed saleen weeks ago asking how the kit would work in combination with the stock driving lights and received no response...

I prefer the stock looking Saleens (which to me, are definatly different and I bet work great with HID bulbs). These are 7" projectors...may require cutting of the back of the housing to allow them to fit...we'll see:

Thanks for all the info so far guys - I've always been a fan of HIDs, had them OEM in my last car and retrofitted projectors and HIDs into my motorcycle. I'll be eager to set something up on the mustang when it arrives.
