So who has installed the Saleen HID?
Hey Dustin, I understand that it take different wiring, but the ballast input still connects to the original wiring of the car, and the ballast output connects to the bulb housing. My question is if we can use a different bulb (that the market would have an HID bulb for it) and put that bulb and that housing in the mustang! Would any other (or some other) bulb fit the headlamp opening? that's my question.
$500?????? You can get 4000K, 6000K and even 8000Ks for $250 at the most on ebay. Just don't know how to adapt any of the available and existing HID bulbs to the new mustang... any ideas? I keep coming back to housing... can I use a different housing?

I pulled the following right off the Sylvania website.
Fog/Driving light
9145
9145ST Silverstar High Performance Lighting: the whitest and brightest Halogen
I could car less about the driving lights. I'll upgrade them to real HID no matter what. My experience with SilverStars is that they last no more then say 6 months with normal use. If I can keep my fogs looking pretty close I think it will help the look of the car. It probably won't look bad though with HID and stock bulbs in the fogs. I guess I'll put some money down on the HID kit and see for myself. lol

The 9145ST is also the same as the 9005ST Silverstar. Wal-mart carries the 9005ST for $43/pair.
The 9005 bulb is super popular. It is the HIGH beam (Single filament) bulb for Camrys, Accords, Saturn SL2s, Corollas, & Miatas. In fact, the only SilverStars i have bought that weren't the 9006/9005 low/high beam combo were the dual filament 9007s for a Caravan.
For all the applications i bought above, the accompanying LOW beam was always 9006ST. I'm new to this headlight bulb upgrading. My friend says instead of using the 9006 Low beam bulbs in the low beam reflector housing, use the 9005 high beam in it. Wish he told me this before I purchased 8 pairs of bulbs. doh.
I've spent much wasted time trying to find 2005 Mustang bulb numbers when I forgot them prior to memorizing them. So to aid in remembering them to others, I'll list them:
2005 Mustang GT Headlight Bulbs
9008 or H13 Driving lights
9145, 9005 or H10 Fog lights
note: Sylvania adds on the "ST" designation to the numbers to denote their Silverstar bulbs.
forum members have already put 9005s in their fog lights.
For the drving lights, I believe I read in another post that Nokya has a 9008 or H13 bulb. For me though, Silverstars are the whitest and that's what i'm looking for. It's Silverstars, HID or bust for me.
FYI, the headlights on the '05 are 6.5" in diameter.
Btw, suvlights.com is supposed to call me today to discuss HIDs and the '05 Mustang.
After all that's said and done, is there another bulb that could replace the 9008 or H13 however you want to call it? I heard that Silverstars is not going to be doing the 9008 HID bulbs, some regulation that won't let them coat the bulb or something like that, search the forums...
Someone has to come up with an alternative to the hefty $1,200 from Saleen...

Anyone know about these?

just got it off a AFM thread. i'm thinking 9005ST silverstars at 65W must be pretty darn good for the fog lights.
no word from suvlights today.
i emailed them twice w/ my phone number. they must be busy. LOL.

Ok when I hear things like this I don't think people really understand what it takes to put Xenon HID lights into a car that doesn't have them.... Then of course, you'll need a proper headlight assembly that is made for HID or retro fit a projector into an existing assembly....
Question then, what's the difference between the stock headlamp assembly and saleen's? I honestly don't see a difference in their pictures, maybe there is. Seems you are knowledgeable on this subject, could you "enlight" us? he he he
Seriously though, what's the difference?

Well they most likely have designed a reflector system that properly distributes the light evenly.
I'm not claiming to be an HID expert however I did install true Xenon HID blubs in non Xenon HID headlights on my 03 Accord and the results were not anything like a real HID healight assembly or projector. The light output was scattered and it would blind oncoming traffic unless I aimed them very low.
If your going to pop Xenon HID bulbs in the stock housing you're better off just going with a superbright bulb and replacing those stinkers every five months.
I've also e-mailed Saleen to see exactly what they have done differently to the headlight assembly as well what actually comes with their kit.

Not sure where you going with this. I was talking about Saleen creating a reflector/ projector system that distributes the light evenly. If you look at the pictures on the website you'll notice that the center of the light is different. Ford did a nice job with the stock headlights but placing an extremely bright bulb into that assembly would throw the optics off. You might get a nice bright light in front of you but I'll bet you money that oncoming traffic is blinded.

what i was trying to say is that must be a new housing ..... foe h.i.d. lighting

Sure, HIDs look great and are brighter, but they are NOT $1000 better.
For the same money you could get:
4.10s, CAI, and a Predator/SCT tuner
Just too darn expensive for headlights that might give you 10-15% better visibility.

This is a marketing guy's dream. And the specs are not baseless. HIDs give you an incredible brightness. And to my liking, the ~4,000K color temp. (white) is very attractive.
I believe at night, our vision is reduced by 80% or thereabouts. Anything to help my vision at night is great. Personally, I think I will go with the 9005ST silverstars in my fog lights. And I may try the Nokya Arctic Silver H13s for my driving lights for now. Hopefully a more attractively priced HID solution, other than the Saleen setup, for the ’05 Stang will come along in time.
Not that it matters a whole lot, but I'd like to interject something here. Properly implemented, HIDs are awesome for visibility. I think this cannot be disputed. Anyway, this is where I have not read anything referring to my observation. It has been mentioned much that ppl get flashed because they are running HID lights.
I was next to a BMW on the freeway one night going the same direction. Initially I said to myself that the Beemer’s HIDs were too bright. To be sure, the HIDs were bright. But too bright? I’m sure the BMW driver didn’t think so. So why did I think initially that his lights were too bright?
This is why. Have you ever come out of a theater after watching a movie in the middle of the day? I’d think you probably have. When you emerge from the theater into the midday sunlight, it is blinding, right? This is the effect I experienced at the time. Hence my reaction initially was, those headlights are TOO bright. I looked at the driver of the BMW and he didn’t look like he perceived his lights as TOO bright. But after driving longer on the side and a little back of the BMW, my reaction was, wow, those HIDs are NICE and bright, I’m envious.
OK, then I thought to myself. I am driving along with my plain jane headlights which are relatively dark. I am looking at relative darkness. So my pupils are “wide open” trying to gather light in as much as possible. Now think about this, our regular headlight exposed pupils are wide open at night and a HID driver is coming towards you on the freeway at a closing rate of at least 55mph + 55mph = 110mph. Again, we are looking in front of our cars which are relatively dark. The fast approaching Bright HID lights are just off center of straight ahead of us. Our pupils are wide open and the bright HID light floods into our eyes. The perception is that the HID light is too bright and it does have a blinding affect on us.
Just like the bright sun blinds us when we emerge from a dark movie theater, we don’t stare right into the sun, but the brightened area we enter outside the theater is too bright for our overly opened pupils.
No one says the sun is bright when emerging from a theater. We say the sun is bright. But not too bright. We don’t petition to ban sunlight. We realize our pupils will adjust to the increased light and it will not seem too bright after a short while.
If all cars had HID, all our pupils would be closed smaller and when an HID car came close to us, or passed us going the other way, we would not have the blinding experience I’d suspect.
Btw, I think Saleen’s HIDs must have a pretty good profit margin in them like the rest of their products including their cars. I know when they were more expensive, my friend bought the newer Maxima HIDs for his older Nissan Maxima. List was $1,000 and his friend hooked him up at dealer cost for $500. When Ford builds the Mustang from scratch for $25,000, you have a hard time convincing me that Saleen’s $40,000+ to $60,000 for their cars are worthwhile. I love Saleens, but not their prices. Hey, who am I too judge? Steve Saleen now has one of the most exotic cars in the world in the S7. I believe shortly, if not currently it will have 750HP. And I believe in later iterations (dual turbo), it will produce upwards of 1,000HP.
Anyway, everyone has their own set of values. If you value the Saleen HIDs at their price, go for it. Just in the value of not getting in an accident will make them worthwhile everyday. In my books, the safety at night is paramount.
Sorry for the long sermon.

Preach on! Preach on!... well, we read that the center of the lights look different, that they are doing a reflector / projector system, but they must be using a different HID bulb (I heard that by government regulation the 9008 or H13 will never hit the market in a HID kit). What other bulb size would fit through the original headlamp assembly without any cutting or the bulb being loose in the opening? What do you guys/gals think?
