Saw the CDC Glassback Roof at a Show This Weekend
No, the on on top of the window looks just like a ceramic tile trim piece for a doorway.
Its a rather heavily textured black plastic. Probably a little more texture then the mirrors. A door reducer is a wedge shaped piece of trim to smooth out a height difference. Looks exactly like it.
Not only is it added weight, but in the very last place you want it: at the top, raising the center of gravity. and more importantly, I'm pretty sute you would lose the rigidity that comes from having a roof to begin with. I agree with previous posts that I'd rather have a Vert.
Actually the reports I read on both the Saleen and the CDC version claimed an increase in body rigidity.
To put it simply, you can bend a coke can with your hands but not a glass bottle.
As for added weight... well... the Mustang is not a light car to begin with, and it's low and wide. I don't think the glass roof is going to have any noticeable adverse effects on the handling but even if it does, the driving experience should be worth it.

Glassback
BEFORE YOU BUY, saw the glassback in Tulsa last year at the Mid-America Shelby meet. I liked the pics I have seen but did not care for it in person, would recommend you see it before buying. It is a matter of preference but some things you need to see up close.
One issue for me was that the interior panels look nowhere near as nice you'd expect for the cost. The panels running along the glass are upholstered in the same material as the factory headliner, but the fit wasn't the greatest.
I love mine, lol, but I'm kinda biased.

What is your definition of "useful"
. That is very relative term and everbody looks for something different in life to make them happy and content. I think it depends on how you use your car: racer vs daily driver vs show.
I got mine for under $3000.
I love the look of the Saleen top. It has a much sleeker look. The moldings were a big factor when researching the GlassBack (and I didn't know about the Saleen when it bit the bullit). I've gotten to really love the look of them on a black stang. And, I really dig the LED brake light in the rear.
True... I went back to my dealer about 5 times to drool (I mean research) the showroom car. That helped me with my decision making enormously.
It is the factory headliner. Mine looks OEM and I have no issues with it. In fact, I was extremely impressed with how professional the install looks.
Don't get me wrong here guys, I'm not bashing or defending but just letting you know my experience with my purchase. I don't care if anybody else ever installs one or not, that would make my car even more of a one of a kind.
Peace!

Glassback follow up
It was just odd looking, didn't seem to compliment the stang, wasn't impressed with the fit, seemed like an aftermarket piece as opposed to an aftermarket piece that could pass for a factory option. SOME MAY LOVE IT, all a matter of taste, overall I really like what I have seen from CDC, great stuff, glass roof just didn't grab me, wifey also gave it thumbs down.
It all depends on who you have install the glass roof. Mine came out exceptionally well. At car shows I have to point it out or most people will not even notice it and I have a silver car. On a black car people will never see it unless you point it out. The interior work is important too. I had mine installed at a custom car shop that specializes on interiror work as well as exterior mods and they had a coachman to do the interior work and it looks factory. The Saleen Glass roof does have a cleaner look but they are not installing theirs on peoples cars. I am very happy with my CDC glass back.
Out in Santee Calif. (San Diego) Hardcorestangs installs the glassbacks. They have done about seven cars so far and no issues with them. You can call Ernie at (619) 414-7372, let him know Ed sent you.
