Removing Window Tint

So like a lot of S197 owners, I have vertical scratches on my drivers side and passengers side windows. I've had them for quite a while now and I figured it's time to fix them. I'm a little upset that I'm going to have to spend money to get new tint but there's nothing really I can do about it. Ford should have done something about it, realizing most mustang owners like to tint their windows (I guess they did in 2008, but it took them long enough). I had my tint installed at a time when the problem wasn't commonly known because I got my car in Sept or Oct of 2004 (one of the first S197s in my city). Anyways I called the tint shop where I've had all three of my mustangs tinted and they said it would be $85 to remove tint and put on new tint just on the two front windows. It would be $65 if there is no tint on there. I know it is only 20 bucks but any money I can save would be great and not only that, I don't think it would be that hard to remove tint. Or am I wrong? Also I asked about moleskin or felt and they said they can install it on both windows for 35 or 40 bucks including parts and labor. Not bad considering moleskin is around $20-$25. So if I remove tint myself and install new tint total would be around $100 for something that I shouldn't have to and would rather put it towards other mods. So my question is how do I remove the tint or what is the best way to remove it? Do I start with a razor, does it come off in one piece, and I know I have to use something like goo gone? I've had it on my mustang for almost four years now. SORRY this write up is so LONG.

I say just pay them the $20 to remove and move on. I think there would be more chance to damage the glass with a razor or other device than it would be worth. I too have this same problem but not too bad yet and am just living with the problem...

Good luck!

I took mine off after getting pulled over, it's illegal in Illinois. All I did was start at a corner and then you pull back slowly and in a steady motion. One window came off in one piece and the other in two pieces. I tried a razor blade for the little bit of glue left behind but ended up using a cleaner, don't recall the name of it though. It took about 20 minutes.

windex, a razor and a lot of paper towels to remove the tint and the adhesive glue off the windows.

You don't need a razor, nor would you really want to use one. Go out and buy some windex that has Ammonia in it and one of those plastic dish pan scrubbers. Pull off the old tint. Comes off easily. Cover your door panel with a tower. Spray Windex on the adhesive that was left on the window from the tint. Let it soak for a few seconds. Use the scrubbing pad to remove the adhesive. Add more windex and scrub again. Repeat until it is all removed.

Here is the type of scrubbers I use.
