Removed My Wing!

I am in the with spoiler camp, I think it fits better with the cars retro theme. The spoiler is nearly identical to the ones used in the late '60's.

Right from the start this was the only thing I didn't like about the 05, THE WING.
IMO it just doesn't belong on this car and if I had my way it wouldn't have been ordered, but considering I bought off the lot it came with the deal. So today I got out my tools and my wifes blow dryer and removed it once and for all. I went to Pep Boys and bought some small rubber caps and silicone and closed the holes until I can get it painted. But honestly it doesn't look bad at all as is, so I will be waiting until spring for the repaint on the decklid. And spending my money on performance mods until then. Tell me what you think?

I have watched Barrett-Jackson too much. The first thing I noticed about value on "classic" stangs is what's original and what's not. Not that it matters on a new car, but should the car become a classic, the #'s on your car might reflect the fact that it came with a factory wing (spoiler), and missing it.

We don't need no steenkin' nonfunctional spoilers! But seriously, I think the car looks great either way. I took the wing off my ricer and plugged the holes with plastic tabs and a dab of silicone. It isn't that noticeable, and attracts a lot less attention from :cop: and the stoplight ricers. Jeez I'm 45 it's time I start acting like it! :spin: Remember: stealth is cool!

Followed your lead and removed my spoiler on my wb stang. Goes to the paint shop tomorrow to get filled and painted. Also painting the outlined section on the rearview mirrors.

Personally - I like the wing - just fits the "retro" look of the car.....it's not over the top like some of those hugh cowcatchers you see on the rear of some cars. If I was to do it all over again - I'd consider the wing delete - and install the duckbill spoiler - that's a good look on the '05's.....but just plain it looks like it needs something back there!

May be time for a photochop.

My opinion is just the opposite. I think the spoiler delete gives it more of the retro look. Especially since the roofline and trunk are copied from the '65/'66 Fastback and those never had spoilers.

How much is it to have the holes filled and painted, does the whole deck lid need to be painted to get it right? And would it be cheaper to buy a deck lid without the spoiler and have that put on to replace the stock one with the spoiler?

Unfortunately, the spoiler delete option is not available in Canada...
When I asked my dealer about a spoiler delete he said it would cost me $600 to get the spoiler deleted, meaning: the holes filled and painted...
