I have the Astra Hammonds. They are 1/2 the price but they have two drawbacks. First, they are plastic. Second, the reduce the field of vision dramatically.

I wanted the Visus (MRT) but I'm not really a fan of the way the top slat sits as highs as it does. And if Im gonna pay $500 they have to be exactly what I want.

As much as I love the rear louver look, I dont think either of the two chioces we have been given so far are "perfect". Fang has said that they are going to market a set in aluminum that, in their words, will be "very 69/70ish)".

Which is why I opted for the ones I did. Once the "perfect" set hits the market, I can live with taking a $200 hit on the ones I have now.

I've installed the one piece MRT Louvers to my car and find that they pose little to no perceptible impediment to my rearward vision.

Painting the Louvers:
I'm leaving mine black. I am vacilating on painting the rear spoiler since I also have Lemans stripes on my car...

Do you have any pics of yours that we could see?

Anyone have any that are painted the color of their car?

Theyre hard to see out of while backing up just for anyone in the throws of buying one
That is not what his photo shows. What more do you need to see?

Mike I want what you have but am waiting on the aluminum ones. The ASTRA Hammond's look the best. I feel the same about that top louver on the Visus, They just do not seem to follow the contour line of the car. How about E mailing me a photo taken out the back window so I can see for myself if its going to work for me. I would like to see several photo of your ride. How about posting some here. Have you painted yours? If so cost was? Thanks in advance.

I gave up on Astra Hammond ever getting aluminum louvers to the market. for the first three months I had my car they kept saying "they will be out next month". The fourth month they admitted that they hadnt even gotten them off the drawing board yet. As of the last time I talked to them last month (6 months after the first time) they didnt even have an ETA when the prototype might be done.

I left mine flat back because that is in line with the retro style I most enjoy. I bet they'd look really good painted though. I'll take my camera and get a shot from inside tomorrow. But seriously, the visibility thru my Astra's isnt 1/2 the field of vison ya get with the Visuss.

My ideal setup will be black rear honeycomb panel, cdc ducktail and then black rear louvers. The concern I have is that I will need to install the 3rd brakelight kit in the rear window and worry that the louvers will cover it up, any ideas?

I have pictures but not sure on how to get them on here.. They look identical to the pictures on the very first post on this thread with the exception of my car being Yellow..

There metal. Very nice quality louvers.
I'd paint them body color. Personally I like this louver type as seen on the 69-70 Boss and Mach 1 Mustangs, but black just looks better with brighter, contrasty color schemes. Given the price I'm a bit reluctant to bite the bullet so will probably wait until next spring.

Here is what the louvers from a 70 Boss Mustang look like:

I don't think that either the MRT or the Astra Hammond louvers are a dead-on knock-off of the originals, but I would be willing to bet the Aluminum Louvers will last a lot longer out in the sun than the plastic ones. That's why I bought the MRT Louvers.

The MRT louvers look way more like 69-70 louvers than the Astra Hammond ones do. Click on my Cardomain link to see for yourself as compared with picture in the post above.

I'm not sure where the poster on the last page got the idea that the Astra Hammonds look more like classic louvers, because that is dead wrong.

I have the MRT (Visus) louvers, and I love them with the exception of the top slat being too high (as others have stated). You can help alleviate this by bending them down on a hot day (the owner of MRT told me this).

As for the car pictured at the beginning of this thread, personally I would paint your side louvers and spoiler black as well. It just doesn't jive when your side louvers are body color and the rears are black.

I wouldn't paint the rear ones body color, but that is JMO.

And to answer Roy, if you get the Visus louvers, I really doubt you would have any problem with a third brake light kit.

If you get the Astra Hammond's I think you probably would have a problem (plus they are uglier and cheaper in quality, IMO).

I've taken a good look at my louvers after reading this and fail to see how you can bend them down without changing the angle ot the louver altogether or without kinking the aluminum where it wraps around and attaches at the side.
The original Ford Louvers were not flat metal, they were hydroformed aluminum with many compound curves that made them fit properly.

I too like the MRT/Visus louvers better than any of the others currently available and I think they will outlive anything else out there now..

Mongoose,

Heres a shot of the Astra ABS from the inside. As I said, the Visus field of vision is much better.

With the astra hammond is it a pain to remove it to clean the window?
It should have been on hinges.

Kind of. It requires unscrewing (flathead slots) 6 plastic fasterners. There is a tiny washer on each that would be really easy to lose if you take your eye off of it. Then you have to be mindful of some razor sharp plastic edges.

Its not terribly difficult, but I agree - it would be nice if they were on hinges.
