Questions for California Dream hood owners
1) Did you refinish the grills and if so, how?
2) Have you added hood pins? (other than what's listed in this thread:
Pins on the Cal. Dream Ram Air Hood, Just finished them)
3) Have you installed hood struts? Redline? CDC?

On mine,
The grills in the two air intakes (scoops) were painted black, as was the entire middle area of the hood - Steeda look.
I did have to add hood pins. Above 70-80 MPH, I didn't feel comfortable without them...
I did not install hood struts. I seem to recall that either RK Sport or others on this forum advised not to used hood struts on a fiberglass hood. I don't know why on the reasoning, nor did I want hood struts.

I also didn't add the Redline lifts either due to what I read about the stress on the fiberglass hood.
I also didn't add the hood pins, and 70+ the hood does shake, but so far I trust it will not go flying off.
Otherwise I love the hood...works great for the K & N cold air intake.

I had mine painted black to match the rest of my car. My front grill wasn't metallic so it made sense.
Hood pins. as soon as I get the money to put them in. I've felt very uncomfortable with them above 70. maybe if I get the cold air induction it'll suck the hood down a little better.

I left my scoop grills silver and really dig the way it looks
installed pins - HAD to - the car hauls and I did NOT want to be nervous all the time bringing it over 80 in high wind and watching the vibrations
NO way on the struts - Mo from RK Sport told me not to and heard another piece of related story of a guy with an SN 95 who installed those on a fiberglass hood and literally had one rip out of the moutning hole when opening the hood to show the car off one time. Not only are you screwed with the lifts then but your hood is F-ed too.....

Grilles not painted yet, as I wanted to see if I liked them silver. They're nice, but I got the paint and plan to paint them soon. Yes, I had to pin it. Steve's directions are great. The hood went from shaking like a leaf to solid as a rock. No on the struts for reasons listed above, and direct advice from Mo as well. I'm still not actually "functional", as I still have the stock air box. I haven't decided on a K&N or other CAI, but I want something that doesn't require a tune. I'd love to match the WMS intake with this hood. It seems a natural match. Anyone got ideas?

These are the ones I've picked out. I haven't installed them yet. My body shop says they can install them in a differnt place that won't require taking the front of the car apart.

I don't see where else they could go that would line up with the rad support cross member and aren't where Steve mounted his (unless they re-do the adjusters somehow).
When are you having them done? Curious to see how they do them and how they look...

3.)No on the struts. Have you seen what happened to Bryan's hood with struts. He has the Ram Air hood from RKSport and had alot of trouble with the struts.
Make sure the pins are not to far from the edges or the hood or it will still shake and beat up the edges of the hood and fenders.

What I always noticed was that the vents sure were functional - at high speeds in high winds, the front left corner of the hood (where the vents dump air onto the filter) would be the part that was dancing the most for me.
Mounting the pins in front of the vents should work out fine install-wise but functionally, I would want something further out on the ends to keep the corners (especially the driver side) down.
