Non-sequential brake light mod

I have read the info on how to modify WebElectric sequential turn signals so that the brake lights do not sequence. I have a question, why do you need to run wires to the Smart Junction Box under the dash to connect to the turn signal wires? Would those same wires not also be in the trunk? Could you not splice into them somewhere near the rear of the car? Just wondering...

It is something to do with getting power from before the turn signal interface instead of after it.

Thanks for the info, I thought there had to be a reason to run the wires so far.
