I noticed in an unrelated post that someone mentioned there were "locating holes" under the fender "GT" emblems. Can anyone verify this? I was wanting to take them off to do something different when the car arrives - holes in the fender will sort of screw things up don't you think?

Unfortunately it was confirmed by another Mustanger that the GT Emblem does have locating holes. Sorry, I was thinking about removing mine to untill I read about it.

 

Oh, Darned!! I was afraid of that. Thanks Rod, much appreciated. Now I'll be looking for suggestions to cover the holes. The new Stang (a GT) is getting some original "67" badging/rocker striping and the "GT" on the side fenders just won't fit. The holes will be too high to cover up with the bars and running pony and that's not where they were on the original cars anyways. So if anyone has any ideas, I'd appreciate it.

The only thing I can think of is about bondo, touch-up paint, and wet sanding. Better yet, instead of touch-up paint out of a brush bottle, use it in a model hobbyist air spray gun.

Still, don't know that I would do this to a new vehicle. If you're getting the stripes done by a pro, maybe that same shop can fill and shoot the GT emblem holes as well.

Or you could replace the fenders with the fenders from a V6, probably a little more expensive, but there are no holes on the V6 fender.

 

Boy, if I could just be on the assembly line on that special day in March and yell out "no holes please", all my problems would be solved.

Instead of filling in the holes and painting (which I don't want to do) I was hoping to find just the right type of OEM emblem (from the 60's) that would fit with the theme of the whole car - modern mixed with retro. Ford was kind enough to leave the front, sides and back nice and empty so there's room for something subtle.

The emblems/striping that I've already bought are from '67 and '68. By design, the roofline/rear deck are circa 65/66 Fastback. So I went to '69 and found that the "Mustang" script on the front fenders (for certain models) is located just about where the "GT" is on the new car. That might have to do. The only other emblems on the 60's cars located in the same spot are the Shelby snakes - but they're not appropriate. And if the chrome script is a bit much, I might paint them Lime Gold, sort of a "ghosted" effect. Anyways, just a few "inexpensive" thoughts.
