Legality of fog lamp covers / tint ?

Just wondering how legal fog lamp covers or tint are? I thought it was ok as long as the head lamps themselves are unobstructed, but there was a disclaimer for the smoked fog lamp covers on an Ebay auction. BTW, I'm in Cali.

As far as I know, all headlight, fog light and tail light covers are for "Off-road use only". Tint laws vary from state to state and province to province. Where I live 5% is legal on the back window, 35% on the rear side windows and 50% on the drivers/passenger windows. No window tint is allowed on the front window and that includes the little strip people put along the top (and sometimes bottom) of the front window. Then again, it depends on who pulls you over. I have 35% on my doors so if they really wanted to give me a ticket they could.

hmmm, thanks. I was just thinking a mild tint on the front fogs to give it a little stealthier look.

You would probably be fine doing that. I am sure they will leave you alone as long as you don't have covers on the headlights.

I believe in CA all you have to concern yourself with are primary lights, head and tail.
Fogs can be tinted, but you can't have blue or red lights on the front.

I have blue tint on my fogs, but it's very light, and shines more white than blue.
Looks great when they're off though.
Pass many a police cruiser, haven't been hassled yet.

I have the ones from showlenses.com, yellow and black for the fogs and black for the heads ( but not limo). The black ones are static cling so if I was to be stopped I can just yank them back off. I run them quite often over the past 2 and half years and have never had a problem. The colored ones are just a thin sheet of plastic. If you have a plastic distributor around you can buy from them and cut them out yourself, as I dont think showlenses is still around. Ive been wanting to make some custom ones up for shows.
