Not to threadjack, but... Hood flutter? Hm. Never noticed it. And I've had... um... opportunities to be at speeds talked 'bout here...

Is this a 'maybe' thing with these hoods or what?

I've heard of it more from GT/CS owners, though i think some GT owners have talked about it.

It was crazy scary. As I looked out over the hood at the seam where the hood meets the driver side front fender it looked like about 2/3 of the way down on the hood you could see the hood lift and vibrae about 3/4" or so. I have no idea how much it actually was, but it looked like you could stick 1x4 in there. And it got progressively worse. At one point doing only 80 mph I though the latch would fail and put my hood agaist my windshield.

Some have guessed that the large opening in the front of the GT/CS or the way the air flows into and around the front causes this. While others have claimed no problem at all.

All I know is I saw the problem before I read about it here. So I was looking for it when it happened.

Edit: I might add this was with a stock hood, no scoop, and stock GT grille at the time.

Rich, is that a hood pin, or was your car just happy to see you?

Actually, the grill Pony is chrome, which is why I even considered the polished pins, but I am partial to the black ones, and as I can see from the voting, most of y'all are, too. Thanks to everyone for your opinions.

If I'm not mistaken, you don't HAVE to use the lanyards. But from what I've heard they are pretty well insulated with a plastic covering.

99% of the time I would say polished, but on your car (personally) I would do black. Would tie together nicely with the stripes, and help accent your other black mods.

I used the lanyards on mine for several weeks and then realized they were rubbing the front of my hood, so I took them off. They didn't do any permanent damage, and the marks would come off when buffed and polished, but I just wasn't happy with that going on.

here's a few more pics of where I installed the pins..

this is where I installed the other ends of the lanyards when I used them

I say none. If you don't have the hood flutter (I don't) there's no need to add them. Spend the $100 on something else.

wait till you get a fiberglass hood. Then you will need them for sure. I don't like lanyards so if you do get them go w/out. And the black would look good but if that paint is always going to come off then screw that noise. I have Sparcos.

Has anyone thought about getting the black hood pins powder coated? Might be much more durable. Just a thought.

You may, or may not, have seen users that have the black ones complaining about the black coming off. The plates are aluminum so they dent/mark easily. I'm not sure I would want to get the black ones as you would have to repaint them often. However, I do think black ones would look better on your car than the polished ones. As for hood flutter, ya, it happens on some cars more than others. Not sure why. My car was terrible. I tried adjusting the bump stops but that didn't help at all so I had no choice. I had to get the pins.

yah, I spoke to my auto customs guy and he suggested the powder coating route. He says it shouldn't be that expensive, so I'm gonna look into that route and go with the black.

I say go polished, give more of a race car look, i have the polished FRPP pins and they are ok, but once i switch out my hood i am going to go with the shelby kit. But i do not know if shelby sells the black ones anymore. Last time i was on the site they only had polished in three styles, no lettering, shelby lettering, and GT500 lettering. I wanted the black ones but i would have to strip them down and powdercoat them, so it would not matter which i bought.
