Anyone know if the heat from a really hot engine will cause any kind of damage to the top painted surface of a fiberglass hood???

I am thinking about installing the insulation cover that came with the stock hood......

Yeeeeaaaaah...... that's not the point - do they have a liner under the hood?

That's a good question. I recently purchased the Cervinis which is fiberglass. It doesn't have any liner under it. I haven't installed it yet. Hopefully someone can give us some good feedback.

I spoke to RKSport about this when I got the hood and also to the body shop. They both told me I didn't need the liner. Hoods been on for months now and I haven't noticed any problems. I tried to do the stock liner but it just doesn't fit the underside profile of the hood right.

Just my 2 cents.

actually vettes are SMC, aftermarket hoods are real fiberglass. but it shouldnt affect your paint atall. Im not using the insulator. no problems at all. And think about it, your car sitting in direct sunlight gets WAy hotterthan engine tempsfrom underneath will. - Roger

and the c5 and c6 vettes do( have liners), the c3's do, but c1,c2 and c4 dont. c1,c2 are real fiberglass, then c3 and up are SMC and plastic. - Roger

Awesome - thanks fellas!!

BTW - would a small patch that seems to show the pattern of the fiberglass through the paint when looked at from a certain angle indicate the hood wasn't prepped right when painted?
