As much as I'll hate to drill through the sheet metal, I'm probably going to do it just to be on the safe side. They''ll be back from paint on Friday. I'll install them on Saturday- 4 days to decide

In for a penny, in for a pound...

When I get mine in from KC (and have them painted) I'm going to (shudder) drill the holes.

Good luck Steel, we'll do this together, and then post our pix!

Hey I know how you feel! I had to drill seven holes to mount my Roush hood scoop ! and I'll be doing some more drilling when I get my Roush rear spoiler back from paint!

Drilling holes

For those of you that did drill the holes. Once the holes are drilled, how do you fasten the side scoops? How do you secure them, with bolts? If so, how are he bolts fitted on the panel? From the inside of the car?

I haven't installed yet, but the "slip-bolts" are attached to the scoops. They slide into slots. Two bolt per scoop. They are attached to the car via nut-anchors(similar to a drywall anchor) and 3M tape.

mrkabc just wanted to give you this link in case they interested you. I think they are going for good deals as the dream car factory is out of business. But selling what they have left, I just spoke with the dcf guy and he said all they have left that goes on the cars are the scoops and the the grill inserts. But there scoops you have to drill holes just like the factory ones. Thought you might want to look at them. Good luck First one is upper scoops, second is lower.

You drill the holes. An insert is provided with the kit which you press into the hole. The studs push on and snap into the insert, its not threaded. Whole installation is from the outside.

Just dropped mine off to the painter this afternoon. Curious how others have painted the leading edge of the scoop, I asked them to paint completely around that bulb on the lip (about 0.10")

Thanks sodaman! I appreciate the tip.

However, I already ordered and paid KC for my side scoops. He's really cool, and it's not HIS fault there is a backorder. When I called him he was very up front about his frustration with the delay and promised to keep me in the loop. I'll just suck it up and wait. Thanks again though...

Well, I picked them up from the painter tonight. I could not wait until the morning. I had full intentions of drilling- I even taped on the template, got out the 9MM drill bit, and rust inhibitor, etc... but I just couldn't do it. The main reason is that when I dry fitted them again I was not 100% sure that I wanted them on my car. They almost appeared to be too large for the car. So, if I drilled, then I knew that I was committed to having them permanently, which I couldn't... I ended pulling all of the existing tape off the scoops and installed thicker, wider, heavy duty 3M tape. I must say that it was a PIA to pull all the tape off- I have blisters on my thumbs from rubbing it off. I prepped the area well by washing it with dawn soap to remove the wax and went over the area several times with alcohol. Well, I happy to say(I think) that they're on... They appear to be very secured. I'm still not 100% sure that I like them. The only "thing" I am certain about is that I'm soooooo gald that I didn't drill. I'm taking the car back to the painter tomorrow to have him buff out scoops and then I'll post pics.

I taped off the honeycomb part before I took them to the painter. I'll give a better appearance of depth and you will not have to worry about it flaking, pelling, etc...
