Not sure how I missed out on this, I say spacing wider rather than tighter is better. M and G should almost be to edge of tail lights. Did some various research on the 66-67 era. I also did the front, if I remember, spacing was 6 3/4 inches from bend in hood.

**** I was thinking of doing the same thing after I discovered recently that you can get the FORD stick on letters. They really look like they belong there. Matter of fact after the initial glance I had to do a double take to make sure I wasn't looking at a 1965 front. Thats because of the way the picture is cropped. Looks good on there!

Looks like we are fairly consistant with the spacing of the letters. Our 2005-09 models emulate the 1969-70 tail more than the 1965-68 models. When you study the 1970 rear end it looks like the letters M & G come closer to the taillamps when in fact it was the taillamp trim bezel that was added as style of the the taillamps changed.

Our new Mustangs have quite a composition of design detail which is a careful mix of the classic years yet manages to be fresh and updated for now. Comparing the old vs new I can appreciate the updated crisper simpler forms of our newer ones. A 1969 in white is shown above, The 1970 Mustangs adopted large detailed taillamp bezels to frame the new taillamps which they did not have before, so the M & G do in fact appear to come closer to the edge of the taillamps. However the spacing seems to have remained exactly the same.

After findng the picture of the white 1969 fastback, I believed I have justified how good my Mustangs looks without spoiling the roof and rear deck with black Shelby stripes and leeaving it solid white in color. I cannot seem to make up my mind for certain what I really wanna do. It seems more interesting to leave a blank canvas than to finish it off with stripes that make it so final. I do know the black rocker stripes make my car. I think all I need is a black stripe on the hood like this:

Looks great!

I had the pleasure of doing this twice after getting my car back from the body shop a couple months ago for hail damage repair...
