auto-off headlights
since i have no idea what any of that means it looks like i will let the dealer do the install. I'll keep an eye out for a discounted unit.
It's not that turning the **** is a pain. I like to have daytime running lights for safety and turn them on, drive to the store, ding, ding, ding, turn them off, get a latte, turn them on, drive home, ding, ding, ding, turn them off, etc. I think you know what I mean.

I have had a few Chevys, and have not had to turn a switch for over 12 years, forget to turn the lights on at nite...
My lame ford dealers say that they can not do anything about DRL because it is not an option in the computer on my 05 stang. Canada gets totally different cars. Something about (pronounced aboot) kilometers but i have no clue why the temperature in canada would matter anyway (joke).
As for the auto headlamps, one dealer says no way. The other one is going to ask the manager monday if he is willing to do it. I hope it turns out to be relatively easy and I can be talked through it by you guys.
P.S. Where do you get an "extra relay"?

DRLs are required in Canada by law. That's why the cars up there are different (not to mention the metric speedometer).
Yes, the DRLs are an option on the auto headlamp controller. I disabled mine. On the 2007s and perhaps earlier, the Smart Jbox CAN be reprogramed to enable DRLs. Seen it done with my own eyes on an 07 GT. Get a dealer that actually pays to educate the service department.
That is the kit. I ran the sensor wire up along the divers end of the dash board behind the door pillar trim and placed the sensor very near the windshield right below where the inspection sticker goes. Only the small lens of the sensor is visible and the wire goes directly behind the dash without showing.
I've got a Yukon that has auto lights (turns on/off). I really like it. If you drive through a tunnel it turns them on and it is helpfull in parking garages because it turns them on then turns them off when you get outside in the daylight. It also has DRLs. Before that I had a 92 Bonneville that had the same feature. It took a little getting used to having to turn the lights on and off on my 05 GT. But when I turn the key and hear the engine I don't really care about the lights anymore.
This kit does not run the headlights at half power for the DRLs. Its a simple relay output. IE the lights are on or off. The DRL logic can be used or not depending on customer choice. It auto controls the parking, head and fog lamps. Also turns them on with the windshield wipers as required in some states.
I had the dealer install DRL in my 06 when i got it(along with alarm n remote start) and I wish I hadn't. First I wanted the DRL's to be connected to the parking lights only not the headlights(only b/c it looks better in my opinion) the dealer said that cant be done. Next and mostly importantly, when the headlights are on or DRL's are on, the instrument lights come on and its difficult to see the gauges during the day b/c the instrument lights are dimmer with the lights on. It totally annoys the crap out of me and wish I would have just done the job myself, just didnt want to break the warranty or anything else LOL. Anyone else have that problem?
