I think they were going for that 69-70's look.

I'm probably the skunk under the cocktail tent, but I wish they did it in a more contemporary idiom rather than trying to essentially recreate/replicate a '60-'70 shaker hood, albeit in CF. But the shapes are basically clones of the old hood - been there, done that, loooong time ago.

Rather, try to do a shaker hood but in a modern interpretation to add freshness and originality to the retro theme. The use of CF is certainly cool, especially how they did it as a reverse stripe sort of thing. But the shaker scoop itself, what'd they sneak into some junkyard some moonless night? And that "crest" center hood ridge -- went real well with the Shinoda design, looks like an awkward misfit on the J. Mays design. As for the hood latches, they do line up nicely with the fog lights, rather than the typical corner placement -- an interesting treatment.

Again, its my whine about retro vs. repro, the difference between trying to reinterpret older themes vs. trying to replicate them one-to-one. Reflect the past in new, original ways, but don't try to recreate it.

Oh, and if it ain't functional, don't even try to take me for a fool and foist such cheap fakery on me, not after the S197 finally raised the design standard by exorcising that chessy and fake J.C. Whitney'esque boil that besmirched the SN95 GT's hood.

You make a very good point...... I wonder where the mustang would have gone, style wise, if they hadn't gone somewhat retro. I guess that should be another topic shouldn't it.
