I know a lot of us are considering getting stripes put on our '05s and was just trying to get an idea of how much I can expect for it to cost a shop to do it for me.

I know I've seen a couple guys on here that have had them done already, if you don't mind could you share how much the shop charged for you to have that done?

Or if there's anyone in here that works at a body shop or has and insight into this your input would definitely be appreciated.

I know that there are vinyl stripes available to but really am only interested in actual painted ones.

Thanks in advance

Really that much? My friend's dad owns a mechanics shop and they are partnered with a body and paint shop. When my Escort was totaled in an rear end accident, they took it from me, and fixed it for $2,000 less than anyplace else would, with all new parts. (Cause I'm good friends with this kid) So that saved my current car from the junkyard.

So I told them about my Mustang and asked what it would cost to bring it in over the winter and get stripes painted on, and they said around $600 for me, with a wink.

So I guess I'm just lucky in that sense.

Same color as car but a shade or so lighter. I know its been posted before, do a search, there are some good pics somewhere. I know it os expensive because it far more labor intensive to do or so he told me. I really dont know the process, I leave that to the experts.

they are stripes that really only show brightly when the light hits them right. If you look at the car from the side, you might not see them, from the front BAM! There they are. I really want to get the ghost stripes....but I am getting this 3m protective film put on the front to protect it from chips and bugs and stuff....and I won't be able to get the stripes with the 3m film on there....the film would have to be taken off... and reapplied

What's the durability of vinyl? Do they start to peel on the edges? Can there be easily removed later without hurting the paint?

Cheapest quote I got on painted stripes in my area (and good shops, not MAACO!) was $3,000.00 canadian. All body panels that get the stripes need to be sanded so the paint sticks, painted and then clearcoated.

As long as you get automotive 2mil vinyl they have a guarantee of 9 years without cracking/fading. Peeling is not guaranteed because if you hit the vinyl with a power washer close up and at the right angle you can lift the vinyl. When I have to remove vinyl from a car that is what I first use, the good ol power washer. If you are careful, and you don't have to be that careful, the stripes will last a long long time.

Can you remove them later. Yes/No. If you are putting wide stripes on a newer vehicle with original paint, then the answer is yes. You just use a hair dryer. It will leave a adhesive residue on the paint but there are a lot of products that will remove the adhesive without damaging the paint.

If the vehicle has been repainted or the paint is old then I wouldn't suggest removing it. I have had paint come of some older vehicles and all I was talking off was lettering, not wide stripes.

I have changed the colours on my 97 GT several times. The biggest problem was the hood. Due to the heat from the engine the vinyl really sticks and instead of coming off in big pieces it comes of in small (1"x1" as an example) strips.

You can buy what is known as a vinyl eraser that attaches to a drill. It will not harm the paint but will leave some marks that you will need to polish out, which you should do anyway after removing any sort of stripes.

Hope that information helped ya.

I talked to one body shop and they did the write up on a 2004 (they didn't have the software for the 2005 yet) and it came to 1700.00 something... This was for the old boss stripes (1 big middle and a small stripe on each side of the big one). I will have to save up for that one.

2k-3k is about right. Unless your cousin owns a body shop and will do it for mat`l cost and a case of beer (after the stripes are done of course)

The dealership I ordered mine from has a custom shop, and someone with a new sonic blue stang had them paint white LeMans stripes on it for an estimated $3,500.

I didn't see the finished product, but I saw it all apart while they were color sanding the affected surfaces, getting ready to re-clearcoat it.

My local dealer has an 05 white stang on his lot. He took it to a local body shop and had them paint dark blue stripes on it. Then they put an additional sticker on the window charging 1,500 for the stripes
