AHL is not that bad either. I went to see few Milwaukee Admirals games this season and they are pretty good (1st in West Division). I don't like watching hockey on TV, but its really fun to watch it live. And best part is, all seats are just $15.
they made a little progress today but the salary cap is gonna kit.

I agree with ya, Steve. All those are things that would improve the sport. But I disagree that while Gretzky is a good ambasador of the sport, maybe commish is a little bit of a stretch. IMO.
I also think it is in the best interest of the sport for there to be a cap, or at least a redistribution of the money coming in from different contracts. Too much of their money goes to the players. On the other hand, I have a hard time feeling sorry for owners. They are the ones who pay these guys and set the maeket value for players.

Dave,
I guess in my mind Gretzky is a figure that both sides would respect and trust. I personally wouldn't trust either bettman or goodenow.
I agree with the players that salaries shouldn't be linked to revenues, because I am sure with shady accounting tricks, the revenues can be significantly reduced.
I really think Bettman wants to try and break the union by cancelling the season. There have been no good-faith negotiations to save the season. While I know they want their way, they will set the game back 10 years or more, especially in the US, as a result.

One more thing that is really sad...I live in Southern California and it seems to me that no one(but me) misses the sport here. They could care less.

Very True.
I'm new to this forum, but I have something to say about hockey. I live in a small town near Dallas, and here the Stars seem to be the exception to the "hockey in the South" rule. The organization has done a tremendous job of promoting the game here in the Metroplex, and there are Starcenters everywhere. I learned to play the game about 5 years ago, and I play regularly. I would be one of the people one would expect to miss it the most. However, I do not. I cannot stand the current game, w/ the huge goalie pads, the brutish methods of play (witness the Bertuzzi Incident last year), and the moronic referees, who refuse to call the rules as they are written. This will never get fixed as long as a Long Island Lawyer runs the league. Depose him, and you stand a chance, and even then I'll never attend a game again w/ my own money. I bought a Mustang, and it gets all my money.
P.S. I spend about $1200 a year in league fees. Also something that would keep me from buying a Stars ticket.
