I estimate low 12's with a good driver for the GT500

power to weight ratios:

C5 Z06:
weight: 3100
hp: 405
#/hp: 7.65 (less is better)
1/4 mile: low 12's

GT500
weight: 3600 (est.)
hp: 500 (est.)
#/hp: 7.20
1/4 mile: low 12's

Now, C5 Z06's have been known to dip into the 11's from time to time in stock form, so I'd bet that the GT500 may also be capable of high 11's.

No matter how you slice it, that is going to be one heck of a car.

Ditto that. What's quarter mile ET and MPH for an 04 Cobra? I'd expect it to be a few tenths and a few MPH better. What say the group?

If you re-ran the program using data from the '05GT, how close are the program's results compared to the test results from the magazines? This might be a way to determine the accuracy or result tolerance of the program. Once you test with a known quantity (05 GT) then you can then figure out what the GT500 might be able to achieve.
I have the latest version of that program and posted the info I got on the data I ran, low 5's for the 0-60, will try and find the thread.

Found it. I got 5.25 seconds for the 0-60 on the '05 GT.

In the new motor trend they test an 05 with a vortech blower and it hits 0-60 in 4.6 and it has 410 horsepower. So I think it's safe to say that we are looking at a 0-60 of at least 4.1 and maybe low 12's 1/4 mile! C6, here we come!!

Umm, not sure how you came to that, another half second faster to 60 on a car that's heavier and only has ~40+ more hp?

Well, eveyone's talking tough about how this car is gonna kick a C6 series Corvette, so I would hope for a better 0-60 time than 4.5 seconds - which is only about a tenth of a second faster than the last Cobra.

Otherwise, when coupled with the SRA, I don't think the new Shelby Cobra will be much competition even for the basic Corvette C6. And the ZO6? Forghettaboutit..!

It will be close at least to the base C6. It is not going to touch the Z06. The Z is said to all be making slightly over 500HP at what 3200lbs? The weight of the Cobra is still the limiting factor.

if motor trend can get a stock gt manual with no mods to 60 in 4.9 seconds and the new gt500 should only be 180 pounds more and it has 150+ horsepower more and a six speed manual for better ratio's so it should be close to 4 seconds or even just under 4 seconds,

WITH 150+ HP DIFFERENCE AND JUST 180 POUNDS MORE THIS SHOULD MUCH FASTER THAN U CLAIM

I really don't see how increasing the weight of the car can decrease the top speed. Top speed should only be a function of max power to the wheels and drag. The mass of the car affects acceleration.

My physics is a little rusty, but I do think the top speed would be affected by the total mass of the vehicle.

Yah your right. "If" you added an extra ton to the GT500 it would have a much lower top speed.

This is because there is more weight on the tires causing there to be more friction. friction slows a car down... but it also keeps your wheels from spinning.

think about it if you put a 5.4L S/C engine in a rock truck it would be slow as heck! Why? BECAUSE ITS HEAVIER!
