I'm thinking they'll make a toned down Shelby in a California Special edition around 375 to 400hp with a convertible option.

That will leave a void for a spruced up 300hp GT, like the Boss or Mach.

From my gathering, Ford is not going to put the 5.4L in ONLY the cobra.
Tang said himself that they Designed/engineered the car to hold bigger engines other than the 4.6L. The way he said it sounded like we would see more than one type of mustang with a bigger engine in it.
Also Steve who posts on here with his insider info says that Ford is working on a N/A MACH or BOSS SE with a 5.4L engine and should be revealed later this year as a 2006 Model. We can only hope that is correct.
Im hoping for a Mach1 again but thats obviously because i like the Mach1's better than all the others from the 60's. However if they do a BOSS i seriously cant see myself being disappointed. Id rather them not do another Shelby because we have 1 shelby already now. I do think a GT350 is a cool idea, however todays market is much more spread out in terms of tastes, and i think they want to make each SE Mustang to tailor to everyones tastes.
So now we have a Shelby Mustang, let's build a Mach or Boss to give that crowd what they want is what i see Ford saying.
Yeah, if they continue with their traditions, they'd likely use the 'small'er block 4.6 in a GT350 and the 'big'ger block 5.4 in the GT500.

It's possible they may make a Convertible SE model. I cant see them doing the MACH or Bullitt in that form but some sort of Limited Edition perhaps ( like the 92 and 93 lx 5.0 Convertibles) I think Ford could put out a couple SE editions at the same time and still sell them.
I love my 4.6L in the Cobra but if i had a choice, id certainly rather a 5.4L. Something about more cubes.

I just hope that whatever SE model they come out with, they make it in a convertible. Would you all say there is a slim chance of that? Didn't do it with the Bullit or Mach 1 did they?
From a historical standpoint, the only one of the special editions that came in a vert was the GT350. I really can't see Ford building a Boss, Mach or Bullet in vert form. It just doen't go with what those cars were originally about. I could see them doing a CA Special (eventhough it never came in vert form).

GT500 came in verts...

Boss/GT350: Aluminum, 4V Hi-Po 4.6 (375-400hp @ 7K rpm), 6spd MTX, Recaros, Brembo, very tight chassis (ideally IRS, but with Ford going on the cheap and retro-grade...)

Mach I: Iron block 4V 5.4 (n.a.) (375-400hp @ 6K rpm), 5spd MTX/ATXk, live axle, high rear end ratio, bigger brakes, chassis tuned for straight line racing.

Bullitt: Mach I motor cut chassis tuned more for high speed touring/cruising. Highland green, of course, and very clean, tasteful, grown up interior/exterior styling.

Once again you nailed it, let's just hope at least Ford produces one or two of these suggested models :worship: :worship:

Only thing I would change above is a 6 spd in all the SE's. I think the GT should of came with a 6 spd.

I am not familiar with the whole California Specials. If they were to make one, would it be for sale outside of Cali? It makes me think of Texas Edition F-150's is why I ask.

They made a California Special, Twister Special, and High Country Special. I think that was it. They were shipped by DSO (sales district). I don't know if Ford still uses DSOs like they did in the 60s/70s.

Throw in the fact that the 05 GT hood already has the cutout lines for a shaker..... I could see a 5.4 n/a Mach in the future.

It almost appears as though they gave SVT a consolation prize since they have to "share" the glory of the Cobra with Shelby. \

Nice consulation prize I would think, the most powerful factory Mustang ever.

How about a brand new name for a change, just to keep things fresh the next 35 or so years?

Well they have a fairly new name in the Bullit, only one made was 01, and its heritage is a Steve McQueen movie.

Totally

The only thing I'd change is the 281 in the Boss. A real BOSS should have lots of displacement.

Along the same lines I'd like to see a Boss that was true to the racing heritage. I'd prefer an aluminium block NA 5.4 with bumped up compression and forged internals. Put the redline somewhere around 7000 pumping out 375-400 HP. While I'm dreaming I want two new options: rear seat delete and IRS. That would be a true triple threat.
I like the way you think!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! B)

You're on the right track, but this would be more like it, in the pecking order:

Bullitt: GT aluminum 4.6, 3V engine tuned for 91 octane, larger valves, revised intake, 330 HP / 350 lb ft, bigger brakes, 5spd MTX/ATX, adjustible shocks, lowered 1/2", IRS, 18" bullitt style wheels, better seats & interior trim, high speed touring/cruising. Highland green, of course, and very clean, tasteful, grown up interior/exterior styling. $3K more than a GT

Mach I: Aluminum block 5.4 (n.a.), improved 3V heads, 87 Octane, (360 hp / @ 6K rpm 375 lb ft ), 5spd MTX/ATX, live axle, high rear end ratio, bigger brakes, 18" wheels, Magnum 500 style. chassis tuned for straight line racing. $3K more than a GT

GT350: Aluminum, 4V Hi-Po 4.6 n/a with VVT, (375 hp @ 7K rpm / 360 lb ft), 6spd MTX, 5 spd ATX, Recaros, Brembo, very tight chassis lowered, IRS, 19" wheels, carbon fiber front fenders & hood & other weight reducing tricks 3200 lb curb weight. $6K more than a GT

GT500: as we've seen. s/c 5.4L >450 hp / >450 lb ft $10K more than a GT

Boss: 5.8L aluminum V10, 4V, n/a, >500 HP / >500 lb ft, T56 6 spd, I think you can figure out the rest. $15K more than a GT

Maybe the whole issue of irs wasn't just because of the money, maybe its because they want to produce special editions and they want each one to have a distinctive feature

Mach 1: hood scoop
Boss: IRS

That's what i'm thinking

Here's my hope...though I'm really not holding my breath.

A Boss 302 with a N/A 5.0L cammer and IRS...that's all I want. If I get that, then I'll take back every bad thing I've ever said about Ford in the last few months.

My luck though, we'll end up with a Grande Mustang before we get a Boss 302......

Gotta disagree, it's written somewhere SVT will be involved with other SE's.
I read that too. They said SVT will be involved with upcoming non-SVT products. I also heard that the Fusion is likely to be the next SVT to go on sale. It's one of the few 4-door cars I like at all.
