Other SVTs
I was reading the info on SVTs new website and it mentioned that SVT is handling all the upcoming special editions for the Mustang. It said something along the lines of "the cars in the same vein as the 01 Bullitt and 03 Mach 1." It said it's focus has shifted now that they can take some time and money away from the Cobra...
Sounds pretty cool that SVT will also produce the SEs...
(keeps fingers crossed for new bullitt)

It almost appears as though they gave SVT a consolation prize since they have to "share" the glory of the Cobra with Shelby. \
I think it would be cool as heck to see SVT Boss or SVT Bullitt running around... SVT is just plain cool.

If they continue with the whole retro theme, and the GT500 being such a big hit, I'll bet the next SE is going to be the GT350... N/A 5.4 3V.... but that's just me guessing. That's already a production motor and Ford can turn profit on it w/o a whole lot of R&D... and it will keep the GT350 more different than just a supercharger.
Along the same lines I'd like to see a Boss that was true to the racing heritage. I'd prefer an aluminium block NA 5.4 with bumped up compression and forged internals. Put the redline somewhere around 7000 pumping out 375-400 HP. While I'm dreaming I want two new options: rear seat delete and IRS. That would be a true triple threat.

Boss/GT350: Aluminum, 4V Hi-Po 4.6 (375-400hp @ 7K rpm), 6spd MTX, Recaros, Brembo, very tight chassis (ideally IRS, but with Ford going on the cheap and retro-grade...)
Mach I: Iron block 4V 5.4 (n.a.) (375-400hp @ 6K rpm), 5spd MTX/ATXk, live axle, high rear end ratio, bigger brakes, chassis tuned for straight line racing.
Bullitt: Mach I motor cut chassis tuned more for high speed touring/cruising. Highland green, of course, and very clean, tasteful, grown up interior/exterior styling.

I am thinking more along the lines of either the California Special since they patented that name.
I really don't think they are going to go as high performance as some of the older SEs. Those were designed to just keep interest up on the blatantly discontinued model.
I think the special editions will be more in line with the Thunderbird and Focus special editions comprised of special colors, model specific aesthetics and little else. Think bullitt. This was a very easy SE as it changed very little, yet enough to make it distinguishable among enthusiasts.
I bet we see a lot of SEs with slightly better hp numbers and handling characteristics, but I don't think they will commission new motors and body kits. If anything, I bet they borrow the front clip from the Shelby and pair it with a new hood. I bet they do this just to save on the cost of making a whole new front end just for the Cobra. All the older Cobra's got new lower airdams and that was it other than fogs and a hood. This one is a whole new front end, new headlights, new grille, new lower fascia, yadadad...
But I guess we will see.

375hp 5.4L 3V N/A Mach I with a shaker...THAT would be the ticket.

My problem is that I will not wait until the 2007 model year. If I have to wait that long, I will be an 05 or 06 GT.
From my gathering, Ford is not going to put the 5.4L in ONLY the cobra.
Tang said himself that they Designed/engineered the car to hold bigger engines other than the 4.6L. The way he said it sounded like we would see more than one type of mustang with a bigger engine in it.
Also Steve who posts on here with his insider info says that Ford is working on a N/A MACH or BOSS SE with a 5.4L engine and should be revealed later this year as a 2006 Model. We can only hope that is correct.
Im hoping for a Mach1 again but thats obviously because i like the Mach1's better than all the others from the 60's. However if they do a BOSS i seriously cant see myself being disappointed. Id rather them not do another Shelby because we have 1 shelby already now. I do think a GT350 is a cool idea, however todays market is much more spread out in terms of tastes, and i think they want to make each SE Mustang to tailor to everyones tastes.
So now we have a Shelby Mustang, let's build a Mach or Boss to give that crowd what they want is what i see Ford saying.

What do you guys think about a Convertible SE model? I've always tried to imagine an '03 mach1 vert, and now I'm trying to imagine what an '06-07 would look like minus a roof. I don't think that there's a chance of it happening but I think it'd be pretty cool.
I just hope that whatever SE model they come out with, they make it in a convertible. Would you all say there is a slim chance of that? Didn't do it with the Bullit or Mach 1 did they?
I think a GT350 would be a little redundant. Back in the day, the Shelby's were models in addition to the Boss's and Mach's. I have to belive that sicne the 5.4L fits with no problems, we will see it in more than just the GT500. My prediction is that there will eventually be an N/A 5.4L 3 or 4 valve head Mustang. It is also possible that we will see the DOHC 4.6L again...supercharged or naturally aspirated. Peronally, if I had a choice between a N/A 5.4L with slightly more torque, but a lower redline, and a 4.6L with less torque but a higher redlide, I would take the 5.4. There is just something cooler about having a bigger torqier engine vs. a high revving smaller engine....not that the difference is even that much in this case.
When push comes to shove, I think I would rather wait for a 350-375hp 5.4L N/A Stang that is around $30k, than buy a $35k+ GT500. I wonder how long we will have to wait to hear official news about such a car. hmm...

Well, I guess my vote is for the GT350 then!
