I just hung up the phone with the dealer nearby. They told me they do have a waiting list for the 500. If I get on the list now I would be number 5. The problem is they want $1000.00 non-refundable deposit.
Is this what you guys are hearing also? I mean what if the car is priced at $40K and they want a ridiculous high markup? So much that I couldn't afford it. How could they keep your deposit if they don't even know a price yet? They say I would need to come in, sign a buyers order and give them the $1000. How can they even have a buyers order for a car that is not in production yet?
What are your local dealers telling you guys?

Not sure if its a state thing, but a local dealer told me they cannot take a deposit on a car they have no info on.
Since your dealer is saying its non-refundable, I would not trust them. :notnice:

We wanted a 40th Anniversary '04 and an '05 when we saw them revealed in New York in '03.
Our dealer put us on a list but did not want any money until we actualy sat down and ordered each car.
Find another dealer, this one sounds like a problem already.

That's nice. You'd be #5, they get two allocations, and they keep the $1K or they come up with a ridiculous AMV. Either way, you're screwed. A lot of guys are going to put themselves at the mercy of the dealers. They'll be crying about it.

Putting a non-refundable deposit on a Shelby without a firm order is not good thinking. Ford will not specify how the vehicle is going to be allocated (exclusive SVT Franchise stores or full distribution to Ford stores).
Put your name on as many Ford dealers list as possible, ask for a letter confirming your interest and then wait till February 06 for the Chicago auto show when the production vehicle will be unveiled.
This is the procedure I am using here at Apple Valley Ford in Apple Valley MN. do not confuse this store with Apple Ford of NJ!!

Just spoke to my dealer, they had taken one deposit and were then told by Ford it should not be done. The one deposit will be honored. My name has been place on a waiting list. Some additional info he shared; they are ot sure is this will be a full SVT branded model or one of the 'specials' such as the Bullit & Mach 1, which means a whole lot from the dealers perspective. As they are an SVT dealer, making the GT500 a special model hurts them big time, as there will be fewer numbers. This item seems to agree with what they said.
"The GT500 and the production-intent Sport Trac Adrenalin teaser accelerate the wave of momentum at SVT since the launch of the 2005 Ford GT supercar. SVT also now will develop non-SVT branded Ford Division performance vehicles – including heritage-based performance Mustangs in the spirit of the 2001 Bullitt GT and 2003 Mach 1 – as it becomes more directly integrated into Ford's mainstream product development process."

My salesman told me they arent willing to do an official waiting list until they have more info from Ford and even then he wont take any money. He was aware of others around the country taking $$ and he said that is BS. He is a salesman but he has been honest with me and they are a good dealer. I wouldnt give one dime to those b*stards until they give you a firm price, contract and a build date.

I also gave my info to a dealer via email to be put on a list. They wanted no money down. Pretty much I'm thinking of this as a contact list when info becomes available and a future sick day from work when the orders are to be taken.

Pay no money now, especially if it is non-refundable. It is too early for everyone involved to be making committments like that. As others are saying here, you should be able to find another dealer who will put your name on a "waiting list" or "contact list" without the need for a deposit.

Stay away from that place. Tell them a non-refundable deposit is unacceptable period. My dealer has me on a contact list and will not ask for any money til next year and it will be refundable in the event they exceed MSRP. Walk away from your dealer. He is a dealer alright.
