This thread is funny! These differences in opinion or interpretation is what makes the U.S. so great. Then again, that's what causes wars as well.

I really don't see an argument here. The press kit and Ford's own SVT website both call it Cobra GT500. End of argument.

You can put up all the advertisments from the 60s that you want, because we all know how accurate car salesmen are.

I didn't put my foot in my mouth. I am reading off of the official Shelby Registry. I am using the Motor Trend article as a proof of my stance here. I am using the fact that NOWHERE does the word cobra appear on the car.

What's your proof? An early press-kit!? Can't get anymore flimsy than that. You can call it something it's not if you wish. I just thought I'd put the facts out there.

Does the "official Shelby Registry" apply to non-classic cars? I'm pretty sure the answer is no. I'd believe the people who are actually building the car (as seen in SVT's and Ford's websites) over a car magazine any day of the week. Either way, we'll all end up calling it the new GT500.

I know, Grantsdale. I was trying to make the link others posted as simple as possible. It should settle all arguments, but it looks like it won't.

Phil Martens of FORD & Carroll Shelby drove out on stage at the NY Auto Show in the car. With the man himself standing there Phil repeatedly introduced it as the Shelby "Cobra" GT 500.

The production car might be given a different name.

The concept might have been introduced with the name "Cobra", but maybe the production car will not include "Cobra" in it's name.

Phil Martens said Shelby Cobra GT500
Hau Tai Tang said Shelby Cobra GT500
J Mays said said Shelby Cobra GT500
and finally Carroll Shelby said Shelby Cobra GT500

That's good enough for me. Believe what you want Charlie. That's the truth. Deal with it.
