This young forum needs a little stimulus.

I've noticed that the SN95 5-speed V6 seriously loses its acceleration in 4th gear. I've forgotten at what speed one needs to shift to 4th, but I'm sure it's between 80 and 90.

Can anyone make an educated guess on how the new V6 will perform? I know the gear ratios are better, which should help some, but will they help a lot? The added horsepower will definitely help out a bit, but will it be enough to carry a low 4th gear strongly into the triple-digits?

Not that it will matter, since the limiter will cut off any hopes of seriously high speed, but just getting to that set point very quickly is a heck of a lot of fun.

thats a good question. From the road tests on the GT, theyve said that 4th gear is horrible, a "performance suker." i hope the V6's 4th gear isnt the same.

Yeah, I was thinking about that, but that was with the automatic, too.

Nope, not yet... MT only got a hold of the auto, and could only speculate on the manual. I'm now looking forward to R&T or C&D's reviews. Maybe they got a chance with the manual.

I spoke with a Ford Tranny engineer a little while ago and he said that the transmisson for the Mustang V6 was diff. than the one in the Ranger, so I'm not too sure about how it does in 4th and 5ht, but I do know that my 4.0 in my ranger 4x4(w/ 4.10) gets to the limiter pretty quick for a heavy little truck!!!

Yeah, those 4.10's help a lot, though, too!! Even the 4.0 OHV V6 in my '93 Supercab gets up there pretty quick with 3.55's.

I shifted a little over 90 with stock gears. Now with a 6200 rev limiter and 4.10's, I shift just under it. I topped out at almost 130 with 3.73's and no rev limiter. Not that bad IMO.

The new v6 is probably a high 14 second car stock, but I'd still say average drivers will only get low 15's out of it. With slicks and a couple bolt-ons I'd say low 14's are well within reach.

My v6 with around 220hp, 220lb-ft of torque can hit 13.9's with slicks. So I guess anything is possible.

I test drove a V6 automatic on Friday night. Then test drove a V6 2004 just to notice the difference.

There is no power drop off when you hit fourth. And that engine roars better than any V6 I've ever heard. I'm ordering one in Feb when my lease is up. I don't think you will have anything to worry about.

Are you going to get a five speed with it, or an Auto?

I am going to get the manual. I drive my wifes tacoma a lot since I have hit the limit with the miles on my Escape. It is just more fun to drive even with the traffic here in Houston.

I tell you what when you lay into the throttle and the rear end squats and the hood raises. It doesn't end till you hit the 115 govenor or you let off the gas. And you want some excitment do a 20-30 punch it pulls harder in that range than any car I have ever had including a 92 typhoon. Second gear in this thing is phenominal!

I've shifted into fourth arround 90 then it still pulls all the way through the gov and then at 111 the engine starts to shut down. its great dropping down in to fourth when cruzing around 80 and leaving an f-150 in the dust.

I got an SCT now running 93 and it hits 120 easily when it shifts into 5th your only doing 3200 rpms. I'll wait to get better tires before i go any higher but the speedo stops at 120.

Yup I guess the first thing to do would to get rid of those stock tires since they are only rated up to 118 mph then I guess we will be able to peg it every time that is after flashing the comp
