Anyone know what the lead time for ordering a V6 is? I know the GT is about a 3-4 month wait, and even then there is no guarantee of getting one. I'm assuming I'll be able to walk into the dealership this weekend, describe what I want, place the order and wait maybe 1-2 months for it. Is that your understanding?

they may be able to find what you want sitting on a lot somewhere already. THere are about 4 or 5 V6s on the lot verses GTs here on the N side of Chicago.

What about the V6 convertible? Anyone know how long of a wait there is for them?

Bumped because I need to know. My order went in 1 week ago, but in about 12 hours I'm trading in my car to the dealer.

I asked the dealer how long, but the answer didn't sound like anything I can rely on.

So the V6 Convertibles ... how long of a wait have people had when they ordered their cars?

Does the color chosen have any impact on when I get the car? I'm thinking the light green is more "girly" than the light blue, but it probably isn't as popular a color.

Can I pick up the car in Detroit or where ever it is they make it and save the cost of shipping and also the time it would take to get it to NJ?

I'm still happy about getting another Mustang, but I haven't been without a car since I was ... since before I got a license. It's a little scary.

Thanks

I think I read somewhere once that even if you were to drive your car out of the factory and straight home, that they still charge you the destination charge. I could be wrong, but I thought I remember reading that there is pretty much no way to avoid that charge. And that stinks.

I got my V6 coupe in just under 8 weeks, so there's a good chance you could order it and have it arrive in about the same time. Go with a high volume Dealer though since they have more allocations, or try to find what you want on a Dealer lot already.

A lot of Dealers, even the high volume ones are running out allocations for the rest of the year already, so that might make it harder then it was a couple of months ago..... :notnice:

Why in the world would you order a v6, there will be one on a lot ...I think it is a total waste of time, and factory time to order a v6 cmon...

I ordered because the dealer only had 2 black cars and I don't want black, but more importantly, the dealer is charging $2,000 over the sticker and by ordering the car, I saved money, not just 2k but I also got all my options at dealer cost.

So, I have to wait, but the bottom line is I got a fully loaded convertible in the color I want for $26,200. That's why.

I'm buying the car with the intention of keeping it, so I'm not going to take a color I don't want because I know it will bother me for years to come.

Yeah, that why I ordered too. Couldn't find the options I wanted on a lot car. Go for what you want, it's worth the wait!

I was looking for a specific color combo as well, but rather than ordering I used Ford Direct to search dealerships in the region:

http://www1.forddirect.fordvehicles.com/default.jsp

The inventory listings are pretty accurate. I looked up zip codes for a 100 mile radius and just kept searching every week or so on those zips. I finally hit exactly what I was looking for, drove to the dealer that afternoon after work and drove my baby home that evening

On a V6 vert you should be able to negotiate at least to sticker price on anything you find. GTs are still going over sticker, but V6 verts are a little more negotiable. All the bargains are on V6 coupes though, people are routinely getting those for well under sticker.

Good luck!

I wish you could do that directly on their site! I looked in the phone book for the zip codes within 100 miles of my location (Dallas/ Fort Worth area), then I entered those zip codes into Ford Direct. It didn't take long to figure out which dealerships had a higher volume, so I eventually narrowed the search down to zips in the major population areas.

My car, a V6 conv, was ordered on April 30. I got the word today that it is scheduled to be built the week of May 23. Of course they still won't tell me when I'm gonna get it, but I did find out I'm not allowed to pick the car up in Michigan. The car could sit for 2 or 3 weeks waiting to get on a train or a truck.

I'm still hopeful that I'll have the car for June 15.
