long tubes and a tune won't add that much

I dont think adding long tubes and a tune will give you 225 rwhp maybe at the crank but not at the wheels, most V6's stock or putting out around 180 rwhp so that would be a gain of 45 hp! from headers and a tune! if that was true everyone would add headers and a tune, because that would be a bigger gain then a CAI and a tune. you have to bring in more air to make hp.

Well the stuff arrived and SURPRISE, I got 2 (YES TWO!) stock GT Mufflers!

I called VMP and Justin said they come with the V6 package & to just keep the extra one... oh boy!

I'm starting to understand why this package is so cheap - besides the SCT X2, all you get is an air filter that clamps to the STOCK intake tube & doesn't even come with a heat shield, plus the GT mufflers... sheesh!

Can anyone comment on the performance of a V6 with the GT muffler?

Hopefully once I install the stuff the performance will be ALL THAT... I'll keep you guys informed!

I installed the CAI & flashed the tune (87 Performance) into the car, then took i for a test-drive. The performance was slightly better. Next morning, I had the GT muffler installed & all the guys in the shop commented on how cool it sounded - I AGREE!

My S.O.P. perceptions of the overall performance changes with the VMP package (intake/tune/exhaust) follow:

1 - Smoother off the line.. less likely to stall when letting out the clutch.
2 - More immediate throttle response.
3 - Great exhaust sound - throaty, rumbling roar without being LOUD!
4 - Power builds steadily into higher RPM range than before.
5 - Nice torquey feeling @ lower RPM range.

I'd love to know what the dyno says, and even my "seat of the pants" impressions haven't had much time to settle yet... I really expected the results to be more noticible, but I guess $600 doesn't buy a HUGE jump in Mustang performance. My car sounds much cooler, and moves down the road a little quicker... I'm not really disappointed, but I'm not blown away by the difference either!

Anyone need my "extra" GT Muffler (driver's side)..?

Thanks King Taco,
I've got a half tank of 87 in there now, but I'll try the 93 next time I re-fuel... better feel the difference @ these gas prices!

OK after a week of checking out the $600 VMP package I'd have to say it was worth it. I LOVE the sound of the exhaust system and I'd describe the 3 different tunes as follows:

87 Fuel Economy = Likes to chug along @ 1500 - 2200 RPM (gets about 25 mi/gal).
87 Performance = Likes to cruse @ 2200 RPM & builds power til I shift @ 4500+ RPM (gets about 25 mi/gal).
93 Performance = Likes to cruise @ 2500+ RPM & builds power til I shift @ 5000+ RPM (gets over 22 mi/gal).

I really think the 93 Performance is BEST - I get quite good mileage AND it FLYS!
The 87 Performance tune seems to allow the engine to be less fussy about letting out the clutch..?
With the "performance" tunes I'm probably shifting before the MAX power RPM point, but I'm scared to rev too high!

Comments & suggestions from anyone with experience are welcome!

I have just done the GT muffler swap and the elimination of harmonic vibrations from the exhaust is of itself alone worth the effort.
I too would like some feed back on the GT muffler on the 4.0 V6, horsepower, gas mileage, torque curve, etc.
