i think my alternator is dead

on the way home tonight i noticed my volt gague seemed low while doing a steady 70 on the parkway.

like halfway between middle and 0

maybe my stereo killed it? i just replaced the battery like a month ago

so i checked on my nav unit and it showed voltage at 10.9 .. i was like omg...

when i shut the car off it jumped to 11.9

any theories?

Check to make sure it is charging. Use a voltmeter on the battery with the car running to check it. It very well could be the alternator. A friend of mine had the alternator go bad, it over-charged the electrical system, fried the battery and the pcm.

bad batteries do happen. i would def get a volt meter on that thing and check it before it results in any other damage.

Couldn't you just check the alternator by disconnecting the battery while the car is running and see if the engine keeps running?

Sure, if you want to burn out all your lights and fry all of your electronics.
