i figure hey if i blow the engine ill just get a custom jack roush 800 hp crate engine. But seriously i cant decide what to do, i know a tc/sc is probably the best to go with but i really want to upgrade some internals and then do a nos/tc setup, cant wait to see what your heads/cams do gash! after that and then seeing fazm with the turbo i will decide if it is worth it.

well at first i wasnt going with the H/C/I setup, but ever since i was told that better internals will make better use of PSI (more efficient use)...then I was sold...the guy at TMA turbo said a stock motor on 11 psi will create, for example, 350rwhp, but a beefier motor with a port job at 11 psi will creat 400-450rwhp...these are just average numbers but are still pretty close to real-world application...PLUS, the better internals you have, the harder you can push the beast and you wont have to resort to a crate motor , even though that'd be sweet as heck

well look at it this way...I always make charts so here ya go!

Note: These are all estimates, I have my real chart on my home computer

170RWHP Stock
==========
+15RWHP - C&L and Tuner
+15RWHP - Full exhaust (O/R H-pipe and dual setup)
+15RWHP - Long Tube headers (may produce more with a port job since they flow better)
+25RWHP - Ported Heads
+15RWHP - Custom Camshaft
+10RWHP - Ported Intakes + Ported Throttle Body
==========
265RWHP

Yes they are rounded off, but seriously...you got the 15rwhp from the tune and intake which is about average I'd say. You got the 7-10rwhp from exhaust setup and about 5rwhp from the off-road pipe. I'm almost willing to guarantee I will net over 15rwhp from long tubes, and coupled with the FULL port job and custom cam (which all take advantage of the full exhaust + LT's), you're gonna net well over 260 at the wheels. With 260rwhp N/A you got yourself a stock 2005 GT. Then you get the LCA's, gears, TT, nitrous. Hopefully some others will follow me in my path. It's a lot harder I think but a lot more worthwhile in the longrun.

EDIT: If you're wondering where I get my numbers for the H/C/I job, these are taken on average from the members at 3.8mustang.

An average 2003 v6 automatic will net around 220-230 at the wheels with:
-Heads
-Camshaft
-Intakes
-Throttle Body
-Tuner
-Pullies (they get around 8-10rwhp with em, lucky bastards)
-Dual setup with O/R pipe

So remember, they make about 145rwhp stock, so this is an 80rwhp average increase without Long Tubes or a CAI (because they get about 2rwhp from CAI's so they aren't even counted most times). Okay, enough ranting for me and I appologize for the highjack, Rygen...but this is good stuff!!!

I'm really surprised they went past 6000rpm! They took it all the way to 6400rpm.

6400 is a bit high I think.. I wouldnt run it past 6K on a dyno.. heck, I rarely take it past that on the track. I certainly dont know if I would with the nitros or not.. tough decision. Most dyno runs ARE cut around 5400 though.. you can just see the power's peaked and is leveling off. Hmmm im a little out of it right now, ill have to come back to this later.

I certainly agree... I think when we spray, Lidio alway stops well before 6,000... N/A he'll goto 6000... certainly not 6400...

I will be quite frank here, while I am pumped over my numbers, I am not feeling good about this dyno sheet. I’m not happy with the curve, the fact that he ran the car to 6400 rpm.

Now, this means two things, one is that the car is not tuned optimally or two is they did a single run like this just to push the car. Chris told me he had a conservative track tune on it for the Zex, and that he likes to keep his AF around 12.2 to 12.7. In fact, my street tune from him is 12.7. He says he never puts a tune on a car at 13.5.

However, I want answers, if my car isn’t at 278 on the track tune he really put on the car, then so be it. Dyno numbers are good information, but the track is where it counts, so while its fun to be competitive, I want to make sure my car is 100% safe. I’m also concerned he tuned this car like he would a 4.6 V8, and that is why he ran it to 6400. I’m one of two 4.0’s in his shop.

I also know that he uses the tail pipe sensor for AF, i.e. the long rod that goes into the muffler which here and on other forums, people told me is not the best way to measure AF. I’m also not convinced that he has the TQ management tuned 100%.

We will get to the bottom of this, and I really value everyone’s constructive input here. I’m determined to maximize the performance of this car while keeping the nitrous safe. Even if I have to go on a road trip to another shop, so be it.

OK, just got off the phone with Excessive. They said my AF starts at 13 and goes down to 10 on my N20 tune. So I am safe there.
