After Market Improvements?

Scrming the muffler you put on, how does it sound? All different opinions aside I hate those riced out V6's that sound like a dirt bike. I would watch the video but I only have dial up here and well, videos are a no go. If I were to replace my muffler I would only do so for something that sounds "throaty" Also if you put in a CAI and Tune the car can't the dealer see that the computer was messed with even if it is set back to factory before you take it in?

I like the way my Magnflow sounds... don't expect it to sound like V8 but it definitely doesn't sound ricey at all! It was an incredible improvement over the stock muffler....
I don't your dealer will have the time or talent to check to see if your ECU has been reflashed... and of course it I think it would be impossible for them to prove you actually reflashed it...
My dealership on the other hand fixed my TPS even though my Zex was installed and connect to it... I actually left my custome tune on the ECU.. The dealership never blinked an eye... they just fixed the problem...

Has anyone tried this tune??
http://www.superchips.com/product.ph...mk=581&msg=%2B
12.5 HP gain and 19.2 ft. lbs on 87 octane...? Are these good numbers?

Those number are right in the ballpark with other tuners... But I'm looking at their dyno sheet... Those numbers seem awfully low... Ok... I guess it might not be aDynoJet... also I would have like to see the graph start at a lower RPM..
Don't know anywone that's running the Superchip...seems we're either SCT or Diablo...

Ive been looking for SCT but I cant find one anywhere around here...Im in Victoria Canada, All I can find is Superchips out of Vancouver. As it stands though Im leaning more towards a CAI first. You can get about the same #'s. according to AEM you can get 19+ RWHP with their Brute Force CAI.

That 19 is a little over optomistic.... I doubt you would really see that much... Also if you have an automatic you probably want to go with a tuner first so you can get rid of the torque manaments stuff...

I kinda doubt the 19+ thing as well....Maybe thats after a tune?? You are correct about the torque limit crap....that to me is THE most frustrating thing!!

yep... the final straw was when I pulled up to a stop light... the guys in the truck next to me are like "Nice CAR!!!" giving big thumbs up... then they said it... "Light'em up!" I just hung my head and said "I can't.... boohoo" Went home an ordered my X-Cal2 that night! LOL!

Is the tuning fairly simple with these things? Can a lowly car painter do it ??

Takes 15 min and anyone can do it. If you can operate a VCR you can push one of the 3 tunes that come with the tuners to your car.

Not interested in burning rubber or doing a tune (at least for now) - so with that in mind, I have changed the muffler out to the GT (incredible sound over the stock muffler I might add) and I swear it seems to have more pep... what I am interested in is installing the K&N CAI...
What difference in NORMAL driving (other then every now and then letting the fence fly open and let the pony run) should I expect to see, if I do change the air box out, or is it not worth doing it ?

I hear the K&N will give 9HP gain with no tune and it won't trip the cel. My afe has been dyno'd at 12HP gain with no tune and won't trip the cel as well. I have heard reports from people that own both that the above is true.
I don't know about the other vendors.

There are 2 different K&N intakes... both give you around 7hp, according to their website.

Thanks! I was going on what I read in another post, but I am pretty sure they do not trip the CEL. Is your recollection the same?

Rygen... yeah...K&N does a lot of research... they shouldn't trip the CEL
Here's some numbers off their site:
Product Style: 63 Series Aircharger Kits (plastic tube)
Estimated Horsepower Gain: 7.54 HP @ 4996 RPM
Product Style: 69 Series Typhoon Kits (metal tube)
Estimated Horsepower Gain: 7.07 HP @ 5200 RPM

My MMR CAI didn't trip my CEL.. and they claim it doesn't require a tune...b ut what we found was it was "fooling" the computer into thinking it was flowing less air than it really was... causing the car to run a bit lean...

A CAI, I think so. Gives you more ommph at higher RPM's. For me I noticed it on long trips, more passing power on the highway.
