I've searched different forums and the internet in general. ZEX has not returned my email so the question is....is a nitrous kit legal on a street car? I'm considering installing one on my car but really don't want to deal with legal issues...I live in California.

I didn't think anything aftermarket was legal in California. Just do it and don't open the trunk for anyone!!!

Nothing seems to be legal as far as aftermarket performance goes in California, but I won't ever let that stop me!

Doesn't that sort of **** you off? California, the supposed sanctuary of personal liberty, has these laws banning stuff as inane and harmless as a CAI. I can understand preserving the enviroment for the common good, but a cold air intake? Its not like the filter is made from the blubber of an endangered whale...

CAI's are legal if they are CARB (california air resource board) exempt. As long as it has anything to do with emissions, it prolly aint legal without the sticker. Nitrous oxide kits on your car are probably ok, simply because you don't use it all the time, only for seconds at a time and usually at a track. You could probably look up the california air resource board on the net, and I bet there are litterally 100 guys getting paid 6 figures to answer such questions. Such is California beuracracy. (did I spell that right?)

Local police and state troopers can't cite under federal law. You can't bring federal charges into a state or local court. Your state would have to have a specific ordinance/state code...possibly based on the federal law if there is one. That usually takes awhile though. Thank heaven I don't live in California...
