To anyone interested. Finally recieved the ram-air box late today. It comes with the sides off, and 3M tape already installed, probably for shipping purposes. Pretty simple, just line up the edges, and stick it on. It comes with self tapping screws as well, I chose to use one in the center joining the two sides together under the TB. The Nasa tape will hold it all together very well.

OK...I like the box, especially now that I spent a couple hours lining it with the heat sheild. I use 3- 1x2 sections, and a roll of the wire loom tape. Used it all, especially to create a tighter seal around the TB.
The TB opening is a little larger than required, so I chose to make a template, and line that with the shielding to form a nice tight seal under and around the TB. I wanted ALL air coming from the front, not around the top or sides of the tray.
After installing the tray, I wanted to see how much room is left around the top edges, enough to brain storm.
Since my other stang is at the chassis shop for a 25.2 cage, I decided to Borrow the trunk weather stripping from it. Trimmed it to size, and fit perfect around the edges. Even went over the MAF to keep it one piece it seals tight against the hood, with only a slight open area on the Left side, maybe a inch at most by 3-4 inches in length. Almost totally sealed to the out side..as good as I can do for now. I suggest others do the same, could only help.

Havent tested it yet, Late tonight I plan to...

I know some reallyt questioned this, but I have a good feeling about this now. Here are some PICS

Any weather strippping could do, just what I had on hand. Im sure pep boys or like wiould have something in stock. Im going to try and find one slightly taller.

I wish the box were 3 inches deeper, It would add more fresh air volume, and enclose the MAF as well.
I could see the Jet TB spacer could be a slight issue. The MAF plug is real close the box, and the extra thickness puts the plug in the way of the side. The TB spacer would move the plug just inside the box...I think. I'll know this next week when the spacer gets here.

It would be really nice if you had some datalogging before and after that showed the air count. It's going to be difficult to see the full potential on a dyno without air running thru it like on the street/strip.

Boy, you didn't waste any time there Greek! Very nice !!!!!!!!!! I got mine out of the box . . . . does that count?

The heat shielding job looks killer :worship: as does the weather striping .

You 'd man!!!!!!!

169stang . . . . you're probably aware of this already (since you started this whole affair) but WMS released data logging results for air temp, MAF voltage and performance increase at speed on their web site a few days ago.

This car feels great w/ the RAM effect!!! WOW, she pulls!!

Had a few pieces small, small pieces left of the lining,so I lined the underside of the MAF as well, keeps it cool for sure

GOFISCH,

Go to Summit racing, and order some up. Its 17.88 for a 1x2 sheet. I would have bought the larger size to cover it one piece, but I wasnt sure.

169,
You are so right. But let me tell you this. On the dyno we seen the ambient temps go from ~85 and spike to 140+ when the fan kicked on. Before the box.
Tonight...I was out beatin' on the car for about an hour. Stopped at the local wawa, let it heat soak up. Took another 20 min or so trip, then back straight into the garage. popped the hood, and low and behold the whole inner tray was cold. Now mind you...Its around 65 here tonight, and I could not believe the temp of the tray,MAF and air filter.
Normally (before tray) everything was hot...real hot. From the filter to the MAF when that fan kicked on....forget it!

This lining is a must!! Im not joking folks, those that know about it, know Im right. The bottom of the tray is hot...real hot. All the heat from the rad is totally radiating off, keeping the tray cool, and I might dare say, only a few degrees above ambient...if that.

King,

LOL..You'll have it on soon enough. Be sure to line it first if possible.

-------------
Issue:

Lower rear right corner of box sits (on mine at least) on the radiator hose. With the Lining, its not even obvious, and I dont think chafing will be issue.
Just a heads up for those with the plastic rubbing the hose.

Could I trouble you for a link to the materials at Summit? I looked but couldn't find.

TIA :worship:

Looks great! The numbers don't lie. That's a big difference in air flow between stock and the WMS.
Now I wonder if Namala is going to send me one for all that I've stirred up. I'm sure they'd like to get one tested here at sea level!

Great job and write up S!

Thanks for the tip about the weather stripping. I'm going to have to pick some up. My NASA heat shield arrived from Summit Racing one day after I ordered it. Talk about fast, I ordered it Thursday afternoon (9-1) and it was at my door by 4pm the next day; and I chose standard freight shipping! I 2nd Spiro's motion, everyone who has this intake w/ram should get this heat lining, inexspensive and highly effective!

Dave, I went to bat for you and last week sent Shannon/WMS an e-mail about that. Haven't received word back yet.

I don't think enough of the filter is exposed to incoming air. when you close the hood the largest parts of the filter will be mostly concealed to incoming air...the top and bottom.. I think other intakes have more air actually being sucked in by the filter..anyone else agree?

JC Whitney has the same stuff. This is the material I used to wrap my JLT pipe. Surface must be rough ( rough sand it ) and oil free before installing it.

Take your car down the street at about 60-80mph or pass a tractor trailer and watch your hood dance around. There is plenty of air getting to the filter, expecially since WMS put those holes on the forward of the tray. Look at their website and see the numbers yourself. It's not speculative as to how much air is getting in. It's proven that more air is getting in and colder! Proof is in the pudding!
The funny thing is they are at 3800 ft altitude. I'd like to see some datalogging at sea level! It can only get better.
Stock Intake WMS Intake Gains from WMS Intake
50 - 100mph: 12.34 seconds 50 - 100mph: 11.03 seconds 1.31 seconds faster
Intake Air Temp @ 50mph: 104° Intake Air Temp @ 50mph: 68° 36° colder intake temperature
Intake Air Temp @ 100mph: 84° Intake Air Temp @ 100mph: 66° 18° colder intake temperature
MAF voltage @ 100mph: 4.2V MAF voltage @ 100mph: 4.3V

Wouldn't it make more sense to have a filter that actually lets air in right in the front instead of having a plastic cover??

Awesome idea... How much of this stuff did it take? I just got mine from WMS, but UPS mangled it [you should see the box], so Shannon is going to send me a new one and battle it out with them.
