What is this sound?

I just recently replaced my stock manifolds with FRPP shorty headers, and added an off road X-pipe (removed cats). This is bolting up to my 1 year old Pypes Mid-muffler system. The sound is the same as it was before I removed the cats and manifolds, just louder, which is good, but I have this reverb sound at :12 seconds remaining in the video that I can't figure out. My guess is the exhaust is vibrating back and forth at 2500 rpm. The system is only connected via the bolts at the headers and the hangers by the rear axle. There is no support for the x-pipe or bullet mufflers underneath the car whatsoever. Any thoughts appreciated.

Welcome to what we like to call "trumpeting." It has plagued me ever since I got rid of my cats.

Hmmm...Is it possible to combat this issue without going back to the stock H-pipe?

I'd like to hear what you're showing in your video but the link you pasted is a .jpg(image file) and not a .flv (video file) from photobucket.

If you click the picture, it should take you to the video. If not, here's a direct link.

n8: It sounds that way when driving also, and only between 2500-3000rpm.

ahh, is that what trumpeting is? I've always wondered what people meant by that. I hear a little bit of that in my exhaust, I think that's what I don't like about it! I'm having a prochamber put in place of the factory h-pipe probably next week, to see if that helps it. (keeping the stock cats)

Thats trumeting. Hi flow cats or resonators seem to be the popular solution.

Mine sounds a bit different than that in the video. The sound in that video happens only for a limited RPM range. Mine gets that same ratty, slightly "old truck" sound like in that video, but mine stays throughout the upper RPMs. (under heavy throttle only, 1/2 throttle or more)

I have stock cats, stock h pipe, Magnaflow resonators (inbetween the H and rear axle), and then SLP loudmounths. Hopfully the Prochamber in place of the H pipe will help out! I like the volume I'm getting (versus the flowmasters before), but the quality under heavy throttle I don't like. I'm amazed at how picky these new mustangs are when it comes to exhaust, muscle cars from 20-40 years ago sounde great with just about any exhaust system you threw on them! haha! (and cheaper too!)
