New Drilled & Slotted Rotors installed
New Drilled & Slotted Rotors installed
Thanks to TDS and beautiful very generous wife for allowing me to borrow his time and shop to install my new drilled & slotted rotors. The new rotors not only look great but work great too and the car drives better. It was a good thing that I picked to do this mod since during the installation we found and corrected some issues I was having with some steering wheel shake. We found that some rotor clips that are put on from the factory to hold the rotors in place were still installed, one on one rear rotor and two on the other rear rotor. On the S197’s this will cause after market wheels not to seat correctly and will result in steering wheel shake. We also found that one of the rear rotors was warped, which was also helping cause steering wheel shake. Also found was some rust build up on the rear rotor mounting surface most likely do to the fact that the car came from the north eastern part of the country where the roads are treated during the winter which we used a wire wheel and some solvents to remove and give us a nice clean mounting surface for the new rotors. I did not get a chance to take pictures since it was dark so I'll post some later today.
Thank you very much TDS I could have not done this mod with out you!

Did you also install new pads? Maybe something with a little more bite? If so, any tangible improvement in stopping distances or pedal feel? I've been wanting to buy slotted, cross drilled rotors, as well, with good pads as I'm making way more power than the factory brakes can handle. But, being on a budget, I want to keep the stock calipers and rotor size (as it appears you've done).

Get some new rotors for show, pads for better bite, and SS lines if your interested in an afternoon mod with slight increase in pedal feel.

Rotors are for show, any performance increase is just in your head. Like new a/b mufflers, you just sound "faster". Better pads will give better bite, and SS brake lines will give a marginally firmer pedal feel.

+1 Yes ...Yes... and Yes....This is the truth. The rotors do little for better stopping power. The real fix is in the pads and the S.S. brake lines. They do make a difference!!
