Tubbing an 05-09

Has anyone tubbed an 05-09? What do you think? I am running out of ideas on my hot rod. Have a blower, suspension mods, shifter, wheels, tires, brakes, gears, shaker scoop, hood pins, headers, exhaust, spoiler, billet grille and stripes. Will do a 69 Mach 1 ghost paint job this spring. I have seen older stangs that are tubbed and they look wicked.

A mini-tub is a fairly involved process. It's about 140 hours on my 69 Firebird to do so, and that's having a pre-built kit to do it and not having to worry about the trunk pan having to hold a spare tire or any of those items.

With that said, if you've skilled with a welder and have some sheet metal at your disposal, the process isn't incredibly hard. Adding a couple of inches to the wells to accommodate bigger rubber would look pretty good!

http://www.wmsracing.com/wmsweb/projects.html Did it on their shop car to fit a 19 x 12 wheel. It looks like it would one hell of a big project. They had to cut into and then re-enforce the frame rails.

Yea it's awesome! I've seen it twice in person and it's really cool. Handles like it's on rails too.

You and me both, and he's running our parts! I think it's funny two sets of 6 cylinder Mitsubishi rods = Aston V12 stroker! Best thing about that car is if you didn't know what you were looking at in the engine bay, you would almost think it came that way.

Never heard of tubbing a mustang for looks. It's an expensive process and you don't have anywhere near the power to justify this mod. Probably slow you down, with those big heavy wheels back there. Might even break something while launching or trying a burnout. From your sig, I see you are heavy into visual mods, so tubbing might be for you...you might as well cage it while you're at it, to complete the look. You need a cage before tubbing. Our car is caged (NHRA cert) as we're less than 1/10s from requiring one and intend on running low 9s. We don't need a tub.

Go with weight savings next! I just recently discovered there are carbon fiber doors available for our Mustangs.
