Help me find a Rattle and a transmission issue
Hey guys, I need some assistance.
I just got my Kooks headers installed and I get a strange rattle everytime I make a left turn or I accelerate hard. It comes from the passegar side and I can't point my finger to it. It's seems to be around the firewall. I thought it was the heat sheild by the shifter, but that was removed so that isn't it. It appeared when I got them installed.
Also, I have a manual transmission and when I down shift to 2nd I get a strange rattle/no oil in a bearing sound. i have the MGW short shifter adjusted to 7 turns. Do you think my synchro is going bye-bye? Or is it something maybe with the shifter? It begins when I pull the shifter to the driver side and doesn't go away till I pop it into 2nd

nope. Someone mentioned it was something to to with the through out cylinder and there was not much I could do about it. I also get a rhythmic squeaking in neutral that goes away when I push the clutch in.
ha with those hotrods, your lucky that's the only sound you get. Mine sounds like something is struggling to turn and then you push the clutch in and all is fine

Your both correct.
Ok so then maybe I do have a bearing going bad then... That's what I thought but someone told me I didn't have one and the noise is something I would have to live with... Guess I will price replacing it.
The part will be cheap :0 it's the labor of dropping your transmission that will cost you
In addition to the throw out bearing, I've read about issues with the pilot bearing - where the transmission shaft mates with the crankshaft.
On another car I had the pilot bearing would squeal or bind after 30 or 40k. So the second time I fussed with it I threw the bearing out and had an oil-lite bronze bushing machined. No more problemo.
