Transmisions Torque Converter leaking oil?

I hav just installed a TCI 3000 stall Torque Converter,it works great just that the mechanic ho installed it told me that it could leak for a few days because the transmision had spill a bit oil while installing it,now its been 2weeks and there still drops of transmission fluid on the tranny wich i wiped off several times already and there still gettin there, could it be the torque converter? Or should i look for any seals ?

I would hope that the tech changed the input shaft seal. If not that could be your leak.

Absolutely! As far as I'm concerned that is sloppy work. The seal is inexpensive & a quick change, it guarantees that the job won't come back for a leak. I owned a parts house/service center for many years, it's a no brainer to change out. Plus, with an aftermarket part the dimensions could be off by just a couple of thousands that it could cause a leak with an old seal.

I would bring it back for an inspection & if it is the input shaft I would insist on a free repair.

Yea went there today and they said since the seal had looked like new they thought it wouldnt have been necesary, idiots!!!! I think ill rather let the seal be fixed by someone else since they might screw more things up,next thing i would notice that half of the bolts where put in,and they would come up with that it looked like it doesent need more than dat,it looks like it wont fall off anyway, dats wat the bracket is for!!!

That sucks since they will have to pull it apart again to get the seal replaced. Although we had the job mastered in 45 minutes for removal.

What could a fair price be for a good job?

Not sure how you paid for the original job. If by credit card you can contest the payment & seek a refund.

Don't know the r&r time to replace, but I'm guessing 2hrs, plus parts & fluid. colmbyh claims 45 mins for removel, that's pretty good.

$300.00 ??

I would have the same shop do it, as you shouldn't have to pay a dime for their negligence. You shouldn't have to replace the seal though, so its possible they knicked it during the re-assembly. I never replaced mine.

4-6 hours is probably a good overall expectation for complete removal/reassembly. We had it down to 45 minutes (out) because we did it about 10 times in a very short period of time and there was two of us that made it look like a nascar pit stop.

Any chance that he over filled it? Its a horrible process but it is possible to over fill it by just pumping away. I'm gonna assume that your car was running /warmed up while filling as well? When filled correctly, oil should come out pencil lead thin. It shouldn't look like ol faithful in a downward spout.
