$300+ towing, $1600 labor, $3500 shortblock, $850 for the port & polished heads, $1200 new block (sotck is broken), etc, etc. You can the completed breakdown at: http://www.mymustangpage.com/2005redgt/page32
You took your enigne out, I barely have 30 minutes free a day from my business to do any work to my car - so the extra labor cost, etc. $1600 is worth it for me.

Yes MyMustangPage.com was down off and on yesterday (the SWBell Service for ya).
I opted not to replace the engine with a larger / better motor for one main reason: I want to keep a 281, 3v 2005 Mustang engine in the car. It will be modified with ported heads, cam, forged bottom end, but it will still be a 05 mustang 3v motor It woudl have been cheaper to toss out the 281 and 5 speed auto and put a 351 etc with a c4, but heck - I want the 5 speed auto and even the ability to say "I have a 3v 281 making xxx hp and xxx qtr mile trap".

I have not blown mine yet. But i will be building the Shortblock on the side. I will be going with the Alum block rather than a iron(cobra block)...I think the Alum block is 180lbs lighter?
I will be doing a stroker kit,ported heads,cam,valve spings,forged bottem end(cobra crank,Manley Pistons and rings,ARP mainstuds)....
Good luck to you B...
Adam From ST MOTORSPORTS should be starting mine Jan 3rd or so......

Just thought I'd generate a little bit of saliva. It's a 4V, but it looks purdy. http://forums.modulardepot.com/showthread....&threadid=74625

I thought about a larger displacement motor until I saw John Mihovetz lay down a 6.80 @ 205.00 with a 281 inch twin turbo car at FFW. That run changed my mind.

Bryan,
Thanks for the update on the failure order. I guess it paints a fairly clean picture that if you want boost (more than 5 or 6 pounds anyway), you better pull it apart and forge up the bottom end first.
How did the crank stand up? I've heard different reports on the strength of the stock cast crank.

Lets not jump to any conclusions just yet. It's only one engine, so you could hardly say it is gospel. Perhaps he got some bad gas or something... You never know. Lets wait until it becomes common to start laying out the rules.

The crank held up fine and Beau is correct, I am only 1 (that we know of) that this has happened to. He is also right it could have been bad gas, could have been lack of fuel, dirt in the fuel, etc. However, based on what other that have experience in the area with the 2v and the Lightnings, it looks to be the Ford rods mixed with heat and presure caused by the boost that lead to the break of the rod itself.

That is the most awesome looking mod motor I have ever seen! What can that guy do with a 3V?

He has a couple 3V's that he's working on in his shop besides mine.

Do you have to make appt to see him? I would like to know what kind of work I would need for my desired set-up and the costs I would be looking at. Based off of that I would know how much I need to save and for how long.
Thanks,
C

I believe he's building one up for N/A and one for a Novi 2000. I'm not sure about the other. Of course mine is with a turbo in mind. He can build it to whatever use you want. No appt. needed to see him. http://www.boss330racing.com/ He's a firefighter as well, so sometimes he's at the firehouse and sometimes at his shop. The key with him is knowing the direction you want to go. He's pretty busy as is and I can imagine he doesn't have much time for indecisiveness. That's just my opinion though. He's in Orlando right now and will be back on Monday.

I'm not exactly sure. I'll be seeing him this weekend and inquire about it.

Update for everyone:
Houston Performance has completed the block work, with the new forged rods, crank, etc and 9:1 pistons. They have begun the work on the porting of the heads and the regrind of the cam (for 7500 power band). I hope to have it all back together by next Friday and tuned and ready by mid Dec.
